You know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not looking for them, and that’s exactly how I stumbled upon Ad Maiora. I’ll be honest – with a 9.0 rating, I was expecting something pretty special, but this little 3-star gem actually exceeded even those high expectations.

The first thing that struck me about this place is how the staff genuinely seems to care about getting the details right. I mean, you can tell within minutes of walking in whether a hotel is just going through the motions or if they’re actually paying attention to what matters. Here, it’s definitely the latter. The check-in was smooth (no standing around waiting while they figure out their system), and I appreciated that they took the time to explain the local area without that rehearsed, robotic feel you get at bigger chains. The rooms themselves have this comfortable, lived-in quality – not fancy, but everything works properly and the beds are surprisingly good for a 3-star property. Actually, I slept better here than I did at that boutique place I stayed at last month that cost twice as much.

What really sets Ad Maiora apart though is this attention to the small stuff that seasoned travelers notice but most places ignore. The Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner of the building (shocking, I know), the water pressure is consistent, and – this might sound weird but trust me on this – the pillows are the right firmness. Not too soft, not like sleeping on rocks. The housekeeping team clearly takes pride in their work too; everything stays genuinely clean, not just surface-level tidy. I also loved that the common areas have this relaxed vibe where you can actually sit and read or work on your laptop without feeling like you’re in the way. The whole place has this understated efficiency that just makes your stay easier without being flashy about it. Look, it’s not trying to be the fanciest spot in town, but honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a place that focuses on doing the basics really, really well instead of adding unnecessary bells and whistles that don’t work half the time anyway.

Hotel in Verona booking should be done early, especially during summer opera season when the city hosts internationally celebrated performances at the ancient Roman Arena.

  Apartment was clean, nicely furnished, very comfortable, host was friendly and interactive. Easy access to house. Excellent choices for family and group stay.

  The communication with the host was super smooth, they were very accommodating. The apartment is fully equipped and kept clean. It was a value-for-money choice for us, as the location was not really central, but the bus was easily accessible so you can reach the city centre without any problems.

  Pamela, the host, was lovely and very easy to co-ordinate on WhatsApp for check-in. She was happy to let us check-in early so our little baby could take an afternoon nap. The apartment is small but very nice, nicely decorated, two bathrooms and air-conditioning in every room. Very comfortable. The neighbourhood is not great but there are bus stops at both ends of the street and the centre of Verona is only 15 minutes away.
  
  What could be improved: The surrounding neighbourhood isn't great, but has everything you need and a good local vibe.

  The hosts were very nice and easy to communicate with.
  The flat is located away from the busy tourist area which was a relief since it’s extremely busy there. There is a bus stop 50 metres from the front door with regular easy to use busses to the main tourist areas for €1.30 per trip.
  We found a very nice local trattoria 5 min walk from the flat so we didn’t bother going to the over-priced tourist-trap restaurants in the Citta Antica in the evenings.
  
  What could be improved: A bit noisy in the front room from other building residents walking past on the stairs since there’s no entrance hall in the flat.
