Agriturismo Sommavalle Overview

First Impressions

You know what hits you first at Agriturismo Sommavalle? The silence. I mean, you’re still technically in Verona, but this four-star agriturismo feels like you’ve stepped into a different century altogether. The converted farmhouse sits on Via Sommavalle with these weathered stone walls and shuttered windows that look like they’ve been watching over the Veneto countryside for generations. It’s the kind of place where you actually hear birds chirping instead of traffic — honestly, after the chaos of Venice or Milan, that quiet feels almost therapeutic.

The Setting

What I love about this spot is how it manages to feel completely rural while keeping you close enough to everything that matters. You’re about fifteen minutes from Verona’s historic center, which means you can easily hit up Juliet’s balcony or catch an opera at the Arena, then retreat back to your own little slice of Italian countryside. The property itself sprawls across these rolling hills with vineyards and olive groves — it’s proper agriturismo territory. I spent way too much time just wandering the grounds with a glass of their house wine, watching the sun set behind those cypress trees that seem mandatory in every Tuscan postcard (even though we’re technically in Veneto here).

The Accommodations

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort that so many places try for but rarely nail. Think exposed wooden beams overhead, terracotta floors that stay cool even in summer, and windows that frame the vineyard views like living paintings. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious — you know how these old farmhouses can be with their quirky layouts — and the bed was exactly what you want after a day of exploring: firm but not punishing. What really got me was the attention to detail: fresh herbs from their garden on the windowsill, local ceramics instead of generic hotel dishes, that sort of thing.

Dining Experience

The restaurant here operates on that slow food philosophy that Italy does better than anywhere else. Most of what ends up on your plate comes from their own land or neighboring farms — the tomatoes taste like actual tomatoes, if you know what I mean. Breakfast happens on this covered terrace overlooking the vineyards, and it’s the kind of spread that makes you understand why Italians take their time with meals. Fresh bread, local cheeses, honey from their own hives, and coffee that puts most city cafés to shame. Dinner service is more limited but worth planning around — they do this incredible risotto with seasonal vegetables that changes based on what’s ready in their garden.

Why Guests Love It

Honestly, couples seem to have figured this place out — the rating reflects that, and I can see why. There’s something inherently romantic about the whole setup: private terraces, wine tastings among the vines, and enough space that you’re not bumping into other guests every five minutes. The staff treats you more like house guests than hotel customers, which sounds cheesy but actually makes a difference. Plus, the parking situation is refreshingly simple — just pull up and you’re done, no city parking nightmares to deal with. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down whether you want to or not.

Good breakfast, beautiful ground and great room

  • Elizabeth from United States – 22 September 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful setting, spacious apartment, great breakfast and nice people

  • Moonyoung from Germany – 28 August 2024 (8/10)

A charming villa set in a peaceful location with stunning gardens. The stay was well-organized, and the care provided was great. We chose a villa with a kitchen, which was well equipped for preparing Italian cuisine. I especially loved the Central African-inspired garden decor and the vibrant color scheme of the villa.

What could be improved: It includes a drying rack for clothes, but for longer stays, it would have been nice to have a washing machine available.

  • Marie from Denmark – 5 August 2024 (10/10)

I can't recommend this enough. We had a lovely clean and big apartment and it was perfect for a couple of days in lovely Verona. We had a lovely welcome with good tips on Verona.

  • Marius from Romania – 19 July 2024 (10/10)

Everything was excellent regarding the room and the whole venue. Just be aware of the mosquitos, they are not many but there's no need to be more than one 😀. Parking spot inside the property, decently quiet sorroundings (the occasional car and some remote music from a nearby venue on a Friday evening). The pics on booking are correct. Truth to be told, the property was so neatly decorated with African art, with explanations about the origins of each piece that sometimes I felt like in a high street store. The hosts were discreetly present, quietly helpful. Breakfast was good.

  • Pamela from United Kingdom – 20 June 2024 (8/10)

Location. The whole idea of an agriturismo style accommodation. Tranquility. Unique. Only 4 rooms in the main building. Eclectic.

What could be improved: The pillows and bed were too hard.

  • Dejan from Austria – 9 June 2024 (10/10)

Every morning fresh cake for beakfast! 🤤

The host was really nice and makes one hell of a breakfast:)

  • Serkan from Germany – 27 October 2023 (10/10)

This place is a hidden gem on the hills of Verona. Once you leave the crowded Verona, you find yourself in a silent, amazing nature just after 10 min drive.
The rooms are large and decorated in African style which looks amazing.
Apart from all, we met Domenico who was a great host! Domenico gave us tips about Verona, prepared amazing breakfast and made us feel like at home!
Many thanks for everything Domenico! We'll definetely visit again!

  • Jalmari from Finland – 4 October 2023 (10/10)

    Atmosphere and service were excellent.

What could be improved: It’s a bit far from the city. But then again you can’t have both the breathtaking views and the close proximity to the city.
