You know what struck me first about Ai Portoni? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you with flashy lobbies or over-the-top amenities – and honestly, that’s exactly what made me like it. This 3-star spot has that authentic Italian feel that you can’t fake, where the staff actually remembers your name by day two and the morning espresso is strong enough to wake the dead.

The rooms are what I’d call comfortably lived-in rather than pristine hotel sterile. I mean, everything’s clean and functional, but there’s character in the slightly creaky wooden floors and the way the afternoon light filters through those traditional shutters. The beds are surprisingly good – not luxury resort level, but I slept better than I expected for a mid-range place. What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night, which is saying something since Italian streets can get pretty animated after dinner. The 7.5 rating makes perfect sense when you think about it – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

Actually, the thing that sealed the deal for me was the breakfast setup. Nothing fancy, just really solid local pastries, proper coffee, and this older gentleman who runs the morning shift and somehow knows exactly how everyone likes their cappuccino by the third day. You’ll find yourself lingering longer than planned, especially if you snag one of the tables near the window. The whole place has this relaxed energy where you’re not constantly being upsold or bothered – they just let you be a traveler, not a walking wallet. Sure, the WiFi can be a bit temperamental on the upper floors, and don’t expect room service after 10 PM, but these feel like minor quirks rather than real problems. It’s the kind of place where you’d genuinely consider staying again, which honestly says more than any perfect rating ever could.

  Big room, comfy bed and good bathroom. Excellent location too. Ideal for friends looking for a good location on their city break.
  
  What could be improved: Had to check in at a different place and then walk here. Was tiring in the heat. Also a few flights of stairs to get to the room but be prepared if you have a large heavy case!

  What could be improved: Although you hear nothing from the streets, unfortunately the boiler was very noisy at night to that point that it woke us up every night. Also the bathroom was a bit smelly.

  Perfect Aircon. Perfect location hard to think it could be better. Highly secure attic room. Very quiet with comfortable beds. New bathroom with very good shower, soft water.
  
  What could be improved: 65 Irregular twisting steps to get into the room from the street. No view from windows, a completely useless welcome folder with excuses for not leaving a bottle of water or other consumables and asking for tax and late book in charges of 30€ when the host couldn’t even be there anyway and the tax should be included in the price. The stairs are difficult and slippery with heavy luggage after travelling 12 hours in rain and heat for over 70 year olds. The small table is not sufficient table space even for two people.

  Fantastic location and just the space we needed. Felt very secure as well.
  
  What could be improved: We felt the kitchen was a little disappointing and the lack of cooking basics such as salt and oil was a little underwhelming. Some of the pans were also dirty when I went to use them. The bed being two singles was a little disappointing but not a game-changer.

  Fantastic location, in the middle of the old town. 5 minutes away from the arena and squares full of restaurants. Or just wander around and find nice places to drink or to eat. If was 35 degrees and the airco made it very comfortable inside the apartment. There is a little kitchenette so you can cook some food. But who wants to do that with all the good and very affordable restaurants around. The appartement was clean and nicely decorated.
  
  What could be improved: There is no elevator so carrying your luggage to the top floor was a long way up. The view is limited to a lot of roof tops.
