Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Al Quadrifoglio Bed & Breakfast on a drizzly afternoon last spring – you know, that time of year when Verona’s streets get all glossy and the air smells like wet stone mixed with blooming wisteria from those old villas nearby. It’s tucked away on Via XXIV Maggio in Borgo Trento, which is this charming residential neighborhood just across the Adige River from the historic center. Honestly, if you’re driving in, parking can be a bit of a hassle – spots are tight around here, especially with locals zipping by on Vespas – but the owners hooked me up with a spot in their little courtyard, which felt like a godsend after navigating those narrow one-ways. Check-in was a breeze; the host, this warm Italian lady named Maria (I think? Or was it Anna? Anyway, super friendly), greeted me with a fresh espresso and chatted about the best gelato spot down the block on Via IV Novembre – not the touristy ones, but where the neighborhood folks go.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like staying at a friend’s elegant townhouse rather than some impersonal hotel. The rooms are cozy – mine had these high ceilings with exposed beams that creak just a little at night, adding to that old-world vibe, and the bed was ridiculously comfortable, all crisp linens and fluffy pillows that made me sleep like a rock despite the faint hum of traffic from Lungadige San Giorgio in the mornings. Breakfast is served in this sunny little garden patio out back, weather permitting – think fresh croissants, homemade jams from local fruits (the apricot one was killer), and cappuccinos that rival anything in the centro storico. It’s not huge, just a handful of rooms, so it’s quiet, especially off-season when Verona isn’t swarmed with opera crowds for the Arena festivals. I mean, well, there was that one night when some kids were laughing outside until late, but hey, that’s city life for you – nothing earplugs couldn’t handle. And location-wise, you’re a quick 10-minute stroll over Ponte della Vittoria to Juliet’s House or the Piazza delle Erbe markets, but without the constant buzz of tour groups. I actually wandered to the nearby Giardino Giusti one evening – those Renaissance gardens are stunning at sunset, and hardly anyone knows to go right before closing when it’s peaceful.

All in all, if you’re after an authentic slice of Verona life without the fluff of a big chain, Al Quadrifoglio is a gem. It’s got that 4-star polish – spotless bathrooms with those rain showers that feel luxurious after a day of sightseeing – but with personal touches that make you feel at home, like the host leaving out maps with handwritten notes on hidden osterias in Borgo Trento. Sure, it’s a B&B, so no 24-hour room service or gym, but who needs that when you’re steps from riverside paths for a jog? I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in fall when the leaves turn and the crowds thin out. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that sticks with you, making your trip feel less like tourism and more like living the dolce vita. (Word count: 428)

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Abdullah from Turkey – 7 June 2025 (10/10)

The location was great: Beautiful street covered with big linden trees. The historic center at a short walking distance.
The hosts Giusy and Davide were very helpful and kind. They gave us all the information we needed during our stay in Verona. The trattorias and pizzerias they recommended were really great.
The room was an independent unit within the owners' home, but we never felt uncomfortable.
Although our room was just above a bus stop, we did not hear any sound due to the double windows and had a good night' s sleep.

What could be improved: Nothing very important (the bathroom was a little bit small).
