Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Anniusca Nest kind of by accident last spring when I was wandering through Verona’s old town, trying to dodge the tourist crowds around Juliet’s balcony – which, honestly, is way more packed than you’d think, even in shoulder season. It’s tucked away on this narrow little alley, Vicolo Santa Caterina, right in the historical center, and let me tell you, that spot is gold if you’re into feeling like you’ve stepped back in time without the hassle. We’re talking just a five-minute stroll from the Arena di Verona, where you can catch those epic opera nights in summer (pro tip: book tickets early, or you’ll be stuck outside listening to the echoes). The address is super central – 37122 Verona, smack in the middle of everything – but it’s on a quiet side street, so you don’t get that constant buzz from Via Mazzini, the main shopping drag nearby. I remember arriving after a long train ride from Milan, and the check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco (I think? Well, something like that), chatted with me about the best gelato spots while handing over the keys – no corporate rigidity here, just that warm Italian vibe.

What really won me over, though, was how the place feels like a cozy hideaway rather than some sterile hotel chain. It’s a 3-star spot with an 8.5 rating that actually earns it – the rooms are simple but spotless, with these old wooden beams overhead that give off a rustic charm, and my window overlooked a tiny courtyard where you could hear birds chirping in the morning instead of traffic. (Okay, fair warning: the walls are a bit thin, so if your neighbors are night owls, you might catch snippets of conversation – nothing major, but earplugs could be handy.) The bed was comfy enough for a solid night’s sleep after pounding the cobblestones all day, and there’s free Wi-Fi that didn’t glitch out on me once, which is a miracle in these historic buildings. Breakfast is included – think fresh croissants, cappuccino that smells like heaven, and some local cheeses – served in this little communal area that feels more like a friend’s kitchen than a dining hall. Parking’s a nightmare in the center, as you’d expect (I mean, Verona’s not built for cars), so I ditched mine at a garage near Ponte Pietra and walked the rest; it’s only about 10 minutes from there, along the Adige River, which is gorgeous at sunset with that golden light hitting the water.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to immerse yourself in Verona without breaking the bank – say, for a romantic weekend or just to explore the markets at Piazza delle Erbe – Anniusca Nest is a smart pick. It’s not flashy, but that’s the appeal; you get that authentic slice of Italian life, with the occasional creaky floorboard adding to the character. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in fall when the crowds thin out and the air has that crisp, leafy scent. Just remember to pack light – those stairs to the upper rooms are no joke if you’ve got heavy bags!

  • Mejor imposible – Tomás from Italy – 1 May 2025 (10/10)

Gracias! Volvería sin lugar a dudas.

  • Leuk knus verblijf dichtbij hrt centrum🫶🏽 – Judith from Netherlands – 23 June 2025 (7/10)

De locatie is perfect, zeer centraal

What could be improved: Als je hoge ruime lichte ruimtes gewend bent, voelt het opgesloten aan.
