Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon ApartmentsArena – Residenza Degli Scaligeri while wandering through Verona’s old town last summer, and honestly, it felt like stepping right into the heart of the city’s storybook charm. Tucked away at 17 via Mazzanti, just off Piazza Erbe, this place is basically embedded in the historical center – I mean, you’re literally overlooking that bustling square with its ancient market stalls and the Torre dei Lamberti looming in the background. My first impression? Walking in from the narrow cobblestone street, the building has this grand, old-world vibe, like a renovated palazzo from the Scaliger era (that’s the family that ruled Verona back in the day, if you’re into that history stuff). The check-in was a breeze – the host met me at the door with a quick espresso and some tips on avoiding the tourist traps, which was a nice touch. No fancy lobby or anything; it’s more like arriving at a friend’s upscale apartment, with high ceilings and those thick stone walls that keep things cool even in July’s heat.
What really sets it apart, though – and this is coming from someone who’s stayed in a few spots around here – is how it balances that prime location with actual livability. The apartments are spacious, with full kitchens stocked with basics (think fresh herbs from the piazza market downstairs, which you can smell wafting up in the mornings), and my room had a balcony view straight onto the square. You’d hear the vendors setting up early, chatting in thick Veronese dialect, and the occasional accordion player busking for coins – it’s lively, but not overwhelming, especially since things quiet down after dark. Well, mostly; if you’re a light sleeper, the weekend crowds spilling over from Via Cappello (that’s where Juliet’s House is, just a five-minute stroll away) might keep you up a bit. Parking’s a hassle in this pedestrian zone – I ended up leaving my car at the Arsenale lot across the Adige River and walking over the Ponte Pietra bridge, which honestly added to the romance of it all. And during opera season at the Arena (a quick 10-minute walk down Corso Porta Borsari), this spot is gold – you can pop back for a siesta between acts without missing a beat. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s solid, which mattered when I was sorting out train tickets to Lake Garda.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting, this 4-star gem with its 9.3 rating nails it. It’s not perfect – the stairs can be a workout with luggage, and there’s no on-site restaurant, so you’ll venture out to spots like Osteria del Bugiardo nearby for that authentic polenta and Amarone wine. But that’s part of the appeal, you know? It forces you to dive into the local scene, and after a few days, I felt like a temporary resident, sipping aperitivi in the piazza as the sun set over the Alps in the distance. Totally worth it for couples or small groups chasing that unhurried Italian escape, especially in shoulder season when the crowds thin out.

The apartment was right in the city centre . Restaurant s 1 min walk. Good kitchen and living area .
What could be improved: We are not tall be careful of low bedroom ceiling. Hopefully BC have now updated facilities as there is no bath as quoted . But this just a comment . Apartment is greatAnja from Switzerland – 28 July 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful roomy apartement in the middle of Veronas old town. Very helpful support. Good aircondition (which was nice in the heat 🙂 )
Daniel from Israel – 2 May 2024 (9/10)
The location is great, there is no problems with the app for opening the doors.
What could be improved: It's not convenient to arrive with luggage since you can't access the building with car, you can get about 100-200 meters away and that's also when you drive in narrow alleys. One more thing was the the bathtub was out of order, well that's a bummer but no biggie.Andrew from United Kingdom – 2 June 2023 (9/10)
The property is very spacious. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms were well equipped and functional. The key system, although at first rather daunting, was actually very efficient giving a high level of security and could be loaded on more than one phone to allow access to two couples at different times.
What could be improved: The water and ice dispenser on the fridge were not working. There could have been more mugs available for hot drinks as the cups were rather small. There was only one adapter in the kitchen and none in the bedrooms/bathrooms for hair dryers etc.Jacqueline from United States – 26 September 2023 (8/10)
Very close to the Piazza and all the wonderful shops.
What could be improved: Our bedroom has low ceilings with wooden beams. Hit our heads a few times.Caroline from United Kingdom – 22 April 2023 (5/10)
Lovely property in wonderful location.
What could be improved: The mobile app entry was very inconvenient and stressful for us. There were three doors/gates to get to the flat but there were no keys only a mobile app to enter. Signal was intermittent and we had to always make sure our phones had charge or we would be left out in the street!Lia from Italy – 29 January 2025 (10/10)
