Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Appartamento al Colonnato on Via IV Novembre – you know, that quiet stretch in Borgo Trento where the buildings have that classic Veronese charm, all faded ochre walls and wrought-iron balconies. It’s on the fourth floor (quarto piano, as they say here), and honestly, if you’re not a fan of stairs, brace yourself – no elevator, but the climb gives you a real sense of arriving in an old Italian apartment building, with that faint echo of neighbors chatting in the stairwell and the smell of fresh bread wafting up from the bakery downstairs. I mean, we got there around dusk after a drive from Lake Garda, and the owner met us right at the door with keys and a quick rundown in broken English – super friendly, no fuss, just “benvenuti” and a tip about the best gelato spot two blocks over on Lungadige Cangrande. Parking was a bit of a hassle, as it is everywhere in Verona – we snagged a spot on the street, but if you’re coming in high season (think summer opera festivals at the Arena), I’d book a garage nearby to avoid circling forever.
What really sold me on this place – and it’s rated a solid 9.8 for good reason – is how it’s set up like a proper home away from home, perfect for families or a bunch of friends crashing after a day exploring. The apartment’s spacious, with these high ceilings and big windows overlooking the colonnato (that’s the namesake colonnade, sort of a hidden architectural gem locals love pointing out). We had two bedrooms, a full kitchen where I whipped up pasta with ingredients from the market on Via Mazzini – just a 10-minute walk across the Ponte della Vittoria bridge into the centro storico. You can hear the Adige River murmuring if you crack a window at night, and it’s surprisingly quiet for being so close to everything; no blaring traffic like you’d get nearer the station. Well, except maybe on weekends when folks spill out from the bars along Corso Porta Borsari, but even then, it’s more lively buzz than noise complaint. The beds are comfy – firm mattresses, fresh linens that smell like they’ve been line-dried in the sun – and there’s Wi-Fi that actually works for streaming, plus a washer that saved us after a rainy hike in the hills. Oh, and for groups, that living area with the pull-out sofa is a godsend; we played cards there till late, munching on prosciutto from the fridge.
Look, if you’re heading to Verona and want something authentic without the sterile hotel vibe, this is it – especially for bigger crews or families who need space to spread out. It’s not flashy, but that’s the appeal; you’re steps from Juliet’s balcony (touristy, sure, but fun) or a quick bus to the vineyards outside town. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in fall when the crowds thin and the air’s crisp with chestnut smells. Just pack light for those stairs, you know?

The apartment is in a beautiful complex, in a lovely part of the city with shops and restaurants nearby and a short walk into the center. The apartment itself is immaculately clean, exceptionally well equipped and comfortable. Alessandro and Eleonora were excellent hosts, always very responsive and helpful.

The hosts were wonderful: generous and helpful. The apartment was very spacious, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The area was just a short walk to the center but peaceful and quiet. There were plenty of great cafes and snack places nearby and a good size supermarket just across the road.
What could be improved: Everything in the apartment was perfect and the area was wonderful. The only word of warning to those who need to use the lift/ elevator: it’s quite small.Bernadine from Australia – 30 September 2024 (10/10)

This apartment is really great! It is very spacious with many modern finishings, comfortable furniture, and nice conveniences (washer/dryer, microwave, etc.). The porch is a fantastic place to sit outside and eat and watch the city and see the river. The location is also fantastic — there is a nice grocery store just across the street and many bakeries, restaurants, and bars nearby — we especially enjoyed the pizzeria and gelato locations just a block or so north of the apartment. It is also on several bus lines that go between this location and the central train station. We would definitely stay here again; Verona was such a great city to visit! The hosts are also super responsive and very helpful in making it a great stay – thanks so much!
