Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Appartamento Al Filarmonico on Via dei Mutilati – it’s this narrow little street right in the heart of Verona’s old town, you know, just a stone’s throw from the Arena. Honestly, finding parking was a bit of a hassle; the historical center’s all pedestrian zones and ZTL restrictions, so I ended up circling for 15 minutes before snagging a spot in that multi-story garage on Via Pallone, about a five-minute walk away. But once I got there, the check-in was a breeze – the host met me at the door with keys and a quick rundown in broken English mixed with Italian, which felt authentically local. The building itself has that classic Veronese vibe, with weathered stone facades and those wrought-iron balconies that overlook the bustle below. I mean, stepping inside, you’re hit with this faint scent of espresso from the cafe next door, and the lobby (well, it’s more like a foyer) has these old tiles that creak underfoot – nothing fancy, but it sets the tone for a stay that feels lived-in, not polished to perfection.

What really sold me on the place was how it balances that apartment-style setup with just enough hotel perks to make you forget you’re basically in a self-catering spot. My room – actually, it was more of a one-bedroom suite – had a tiny kitchenette with a Nespresso machine and a fridge stocked with basics if you ask ahead, which was a lifesaver for whipping up a quick pasta after a long day wandering. The bed was comfy, with crisp linens that smelled freshly laundered, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger a bit too long in the morning. Oh, and the views – from my window, I could see snippets of the Adige River if I craned my neck, and at night, the street noise dies down around 10 PM, though you might hear the occasional scooter zipping by during opera season in summer. It’s not dead silent, mind you; Verona’s alive with tourists flocking to Piazza Bra or Juliet’s House just a 10-minute stroll away, but that’s part of the charm. I did notice the Wi-Fi could be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming – a minor gripe, but hey, it forced me to unplug and people-watch from the balcony instead. And speaking of seasons, if you’re here in July for the Arena festivals, book early; the place fills up fast, and the energy spills right into these streets.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Verona without the sterile feel of a big chain hotel, this is your spot – it’s got that 8.8 rating for a reason, blending four-star comforts with the intimacy of an apartment. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for a longer stay where you can stock up on prosciutto from the market on Corso Porta Borsari and cook in. Just pack light; the stairs can be a workout if the elevator’s being finicky. You know what? It made my trip feel less like tourism and more like temporarily living in Shakespeare’s city – romantic, a tad chaotic, but utterly rewarding.

Communication was excellent. There was so much room. It was very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. Air conditioning was great too and the location was perfect.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Lovely apartment in the centre of Verona Definitely recommend it! – Irina from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

Liked everything. The location is two steps to Arena but quiet area, the view from the balcony is so lovely, the apartment is very big and a lot of space to stay for a short or long trip. Good for a couple or a family with child with everything you need.

What could be improved: Nothing negative

  • Fantastic – would return again! – Shanker from United Kingdom – 13 July 2024 (9/10)

Better than photos, Great location, practically next door to good Pam supermarket, Lift, Easy check in process,

What could be improved: Wifi signal poor in most parts of apartment as router is located near entrance of collection of rooms

  • When the renovation is done, this is THE place for opera guests! – Anne from Finland – 25 June 2025 (8/10)

The location was perfect, maybe 300-400 meters from the Arena. Easy to get home from the opera at 2.15 am 😉.Still on a quiet side street. There was a good grocery store in the same building. The air heat pumps kept the apartment moderately cool in temperatures over 30 celsius. There was plenty of space for a couple (spacious living and bedroom, as well as kitchen and bathroom) and two television sets (but all channels in Italian). Surrounded by dozens of restaurants.

What could be improved: The building was under facade renovation (=covered in plastic) and therefore lots of noise from 7.30am till 6pm. The big balcony facing the amphitheater (!!) was full of dirt and covered in plastic. In normal situation there is a fantastic view to the piazza and the Arena. There were too few clothes hangers in the wardrobe (which was quite crowded with baby bed etc). There were no tea towels or cleaning clothes in the kitchen.

  • Great stay. – Tamara from Belgium – 5 May 2025 (8/10)

Extremely clean and spacious apartment in the heart of Verona. Great balcony with incredible view. Highly recommend.

What could be improved: Weak wi-fi

  • Highly recommended – Kalina from Bulgaria – 18 July 2024 (10/10)

A beautiful, typically Italian apartment, in the heart of the old town, spacious, furnished with everything you need. Gorgeous terrace, shop very close. The host was extremely kind and responsive! Highly recommended!

  • Perfect if there was no building work. – James from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (5/10)

Great location and very spacious apartment. It has a few extras like a large flat screen tv and stereo system, washing machine and a well equipped kitchen. The 2 living space doors open on to a wrap around balcony which looks over the Piazza Bar.

What could be improved: There is a lot of. Holding work going on at the property which means it’s very noisy during the hours of work and the balcony is off limits. There is scaffolding and netting around the whole building which allows the builders a view through all the windows including the bathroom! The owner didn’t seem to think this was a problem when we asked if we could cancel. The main reason for booking was to take advantage of the balcony and view.

  • Apartment close to the centre of Verona but needs updating. – Anita from Ireland – 13 May 2025 (7/10)

Very close to the centre of Verona.

What could be improved: We could hardly find the front door with all the scaffolding on the front of the building. The place looks a lot better in the pics than in reality. Balcony need a lot of work.
