Arela Overview

First Impressions

Walking down Vicolo Cieco San Pietro Incarnario feels like stepping into a hidden corner of old Verona that most tourists never find. Arela sits tucked away on this narrow street, and honestly, I almost walked past it — the entrance is so understated you’d think it was just another historic building. But that’s exactly what makes this four-star boutique hotel special. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of intimacy and sophistication that larger hotels just can’t replicate.

Location Magic

You know what’s incredible about this spot? You’re literally in Verona’s historical heart — I mean, you can walk to Juliet’s balcony in about three minutes, and the Arena is maybe a five-minute stroll. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being on a vicolo cieco (dead-end street) means zero through traffic. It’s this perfect combination of being right in the action but completely peaceful when you want to retreat. I’ve stayed in plenty of “centrally located” places that turned out to be tourist traps, but Arela actually delivers on that promise of being in the real center.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this wonderful blend of contemporary design and respect for the building’s history — exposed beams overhead, modern fixtures that actually work well, and windows that open onto the quiet street below. What impressed me most was the attention to detail: proper blackout curtains (a rarity in Italian hotels, honestly), excellent air conditioning, and a bathroom that felt genuinely luxurious without being over the top. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters more than you’d think after long days exploring the city on foot.

Neighborhood Insights

This part of Verona’s historical center has such a different vibe from the main tourist drags. There’s a little restaurant around the corner that locals actually frequent — not just another place serving overpriced pasta to visitors. In the early morning, you’ll see residents heading to work, shopkeepers opening their doors, and you get this authentic slice of daily Veronese life. The narrow streets here date back centuries, and walking them feels like you’re discovering secret passages through the city’s past.

Why Guests Love It

I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something genuinely romantic about the whole experience, from the intimate scale of the hotel to the charming neighborhood setting. The staff clearly knows their stuff about Verona and can point you toward experiences beyond the obvious tourist sites. Plus, having such an exceptional location score makes perfect sense when you’re staying here — everything you want to see is walkable, but you’re not dealing with the noise and crowds that come with being on a main thoroughfare. It’s that rare find where the reality actually exceeds the expectations.

Exploring Verona offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Italy’s city of love, from its ancient Roman ruins to its Renaissance palaces and world-renowned romantic literature connections.

Reviews of Arela

  • Michele from United States – 19 February 2025 (8/10)

Beautiful space, clean, comfortable and a great location.

What could be improved: We would have enjoyed some essentials, i.e. salt, pepper, oil or butter and a coffee table in the living room.

  • Manja from Slovenia – 26 September 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful apartment with excellent location, a few minutes away from Arena, City centre, shopping streets. Apartment was very clean, with comfy beds, there were also two little balconies with a nice view over the streets.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Michael from United Kingdom – 23 June 2024 (8/10)

The property was very conveniently located on the edge of the old city and consisted of a renovation to an older building – this made us feel part of the city. The apartment had a very agreeable modern look in an open-plan layout.

What could be improved: Some minor points: There was a broken drawer in the bathroom and some unusable bedside shelves. We were left without Wi/Fi on the first day. It took some effort to convince the host that there was an actual problem (rather than assume that all of our devices were faulty!). In the end, the host arranged for a repair the following morning. Beware the 50+ steps from ground level :).

  • Holly from United States – 18 June 2024 (9/10)

The location was fabulous. Close to everything you would want to see in Verona. The balcony was a bonus and it was a quiet street so great for sleeping with the windows open.

What could be improved: Would have liked to know more about the air conditioning limits. It did get hot a couple of nights making sleeping uncomfortable without windows open and without fans, there was not a lot of air circulating.

  • Maria from Australia – 14 June 2024 (9/10)

Delightful apartment in a great location

  • Ervis from Albania – 7 April 2024 (9/10)

The property was really cozy and well furnished. Comfortable beds and clean rooms/bathrooms.
We liked it cause it was close to Verona's city center. The owner is really friendly and helpful. We had a problem with our keys (it was totally our fault cause we forgot them inside) and she was ready to find us in record time a locksmith on a Sunday morning. (which is hard cause most of them take the day of on weekends)
I would like to thank her for her support and patience. Will recommend it to my friends and family.

  • Kylie from Australia – 1 December 2023 (8/10)

Location was fantastic, apartment very clean and neat.

What could be improved: The heating would not turn on until the internal temperature dropped below 20 degrees. Unfortunately we were cold and this was uncomfortable at times.

  • Jenni from United Kingdom – 9 September 2023 (9/10)

Beautifully presented, had all we needed. Location perfect for the amphitheater, which was the reason for the trip.

What could be improved: Lots of stairs- hard to get up with heavy suitcases.

  • Patrick from Ireland – 3 September 2023 (9/10)

Super location, very clean and very comfortable. Great value . Lots of little extras. Definitely recommend. Please note it’s on the third floor with 50 steps up so anyone with difficulty it would be an issue . 10/10

    What could be improved: Bad

  • Joanie from United States – 26 August 2023 (9/10)

The location was excellent-4 minute walk to the Arena & main sights, 50 feet from Dari Ristorante (excellent place for lunch or dinner), the neighborhood safe and quiet, spacious apartment for family of 4, beautiful view of neighborhood from 3rd floor balcony, good A/C for size of apartment.

What could be improved: Pillows were not comfortable (too firm), no hand soap in container, no coffee pods were offered in apartment although there was a Nespresso & drip coffee machine (other short term booking throughout stay in Italy offered small selection of coffee pods). Did not hear from host until morning of arrival would have liked to confirm arrival details day before.
