The building itself feels authentically old-world, with those worn stone steps that echo a little when you tromp up them, and the air smells faintly of fresh bread from the bakery around the corner on Corso Porta Borsari. Check-in was a breeze; the host – this friendly local guy named Marco, I think – handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the best gelato spots nearby (pro tip: try the pistachio at Gelateria Ponte Pietra, it’s a five-minute walk and beats anything chain-y). I mean, it’s not some massive lobby affair, but that’s what makes it feel personal, like crashing at a friend’s apartment in the heart of things.

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that cozy, lived-in vibe with some thoughtful touches that make you forget you’re in a 4-star spot with a stellar 9.3 rating. My room overlooked the vicolo – narrow as heck, but with these shuttered windows that let in the golden afternoon light and muffled sounds of street musicians drifting up from the arena side. The bed was plush, queen-sized with crisp linens that actually smelled like they’ve been line-dried (none of that sterile hotel scent), and there’s a little kitchenette that’s a godsend if you’re like me and prefer brewing your own espresso rather than shelling out at cafes every morning. Well, sort of – the coffee maker’s basic, but it does the job, and there’s a mini-fridge stocked with local wines if you ask ahead. It’s super close to the Arena di Verona, maybe a two-minute stroll, which is perfect for catching an opera without the hassle of taxis (though fair critique: during festival season in summer, the noise from rehearsals can seep in until late, so pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper). And get this – you’re steps from Juliet’s House on Via Cappello, but avoid the midday rush; I went early morning and had the balcony almost to myself, scribbling a note on the wall like everyone else. The bathroom’s modern, with rainfall showers that feel luxurious after a day of exploring, and Wi-Fi’s speedy enough for streaming, which saved me on a rainy afternoon.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that immerses you in Verona without the impersonal hotel chain feel, Arena House Sofia is a gem – especially for couples or solo travelers who want that blend of history and convenience. Parking’s a nightmare in the centre (try the lots near Castelvecchio, about a 10-minute walk), but once you’re settled, everything’s on foot: markets at Piazza delle Erbe for fresh produce, or a quick bridge hop to the less-touristy Trastevere vibes across the Adige. It’s not flawless – those stairs might tire you out after gelato binges – but with rates that don’t break the bank and that unbeatable location, I’d book it again in a heartbeat. Trust me, waking up to church bells and the hum of the city starting its day? That’s the real Verona magic.

  Modern and spacious apartment with an Italian vibe. Great location and had all neccessities for my needs. Good communication from the host and quick response times. Has a washing machine ( convenient for longer stays ), coffee machine ( no pods though but had a ground coffee and a kettle which is fine for me ), TV in the living room and the bedroom.
  
  What could be improved: It rained for a few evenings during my stay so there was a smell of dampness in the bathroom and the building itself.
  Could do with a deeper cleaning and dusting.

  This apartment is in great location- a short walk to Arena do Verona and to Castelvecchio.
  
  It is very well equipped and has everything you need for the stay. The bedroom is very spacious.

  Sofia was very friendly and helpful and gave us useful tips for the places to visit.
  
  What could be improved: The shower is a bit dated and bathroom is quite small.

  Ubicación perfecta, muy céntrica y al mismo tiempo tranquila. Instalaciones modernas y muy cómodas, nos sentíamos como en casa. La anfitriona nos ayudó en todo lo que necesitamos, fue muy atenta.
