Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to B&B al 19 on Stradone San Fermo – you know, that wide street that cuts through Verona’s old town, just a stone’s throw from the Adige River and not far from where it meets Via Leoni. Honestly, finding parking in the historical center is always a bit of a hassle – I mean, those narrow lanes aren’t made for cars, especially during the summer opera season when the Arena di Verona packs in crowds – but there’s a public garage nearby on Via Sottoriva that worked out fine for me, and the hotel folks gave spot-on directions over the phone. Walking in, the place feels like stepping into one of those restored palazzos you see all over Verona; it’s got that mix of exposed brick and modern touches without trying too hard. The check-in was super low-key – the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco (I think?), chatted about the best gelato spot on Via Mazzini while handing over the keys, and before I knew it, I was up in my room overlooking the street.
What really won me over was how the B&B nails that cozy, lived-in vibe – it’s not some sterile chain hotel, but a small spot with just a handful of rooms in a building that’s probably been around since the Renaissance or something. My suite had these high ceilings and wooden beams that smelled faintly of aged oak, and the bed was ridiculously comfortable, like sinking into a cloud after a day wandering the cobblestones. Breakfast is a highlight – they serve it in this little courtyard that’s tucked away from the morning bustle, with fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and coffee that actually tastes like Italy should (none of that weak stuff you get in tourist traps). Oh, and if you’re a light sleeper, fair warning: the street can get a tad noisy in the evenings with folks spilling out from the nearby enotecas on Piazza delle Erbe – but earplugs sorted that out for me, and honestly, it’s part of the charm, hearing the distant hum of Verona coming alive. The location’s a dream for exploring; you’re basically five minutes from Juliet’s House (touristy, sure, but fun) and a quick stroll to the Castelvecchio bridge for those sunset views over the river. I even popped into the little church of San Fermo right across the way – stunning frescoes, and it’s one of those hidden gems locals love but visitors often miss.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona – especially off-season in spring when the crowds thin out and the air smells like blooming wisteria – B&B al 19 is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got an insider’s edge. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the older parts of the building, but who cares when you’re steps from real-life history? I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe even splurge on the room with the balcony next time. Trust me, it’s got that authentic Verona soul that turns a trip into something memorable.

Our host was absolutely exceptional. She was extremely welcoming and friendly, and went above and beyond to assist our specific needs. Communication with her was very easy. She gave wonderful restaurant recommendations. She lives close by if there is anything at all you need. We only had great things to stay about this booking!
