You know, when I first pulled up to B&B La Magia dei Sogni Relais on Via Chioda – that’s this quiet little stretch in Verona’s Borgo Roma neighborhood, not too far from the fairgrounds where they hold that massive Vinitaly wine expo every spring – I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s tucked away from the tourist chaos of the city center, like a hidden gem in what feels more like a residential pocket than a hotel strip. Honestly, driving in from the A4 autostrada exit, it took me maybe 10 minutes to get there, and parking was a breeze – they’ve got their own spots right out front, which is a lifesaver in Italy where street parking can turn into a nightmare. I arrived late afternoon in early fall, when the air still has that warm, earthy scent from the nearby Adige River, and the owner greeted me with this genuine smile and a quick espresso – none of that scripted hotel check-in vibe. The place is a converted villa, sort of old-world charming with stone walls and these massive wooden beams that creak just a bit when you walk across the floors (which, I mean, adds to the character, right?).

What really won me over, though, was how it balances that dreamy, intimate feel – the name means “The Magic of Dreams,” after all – with practical touches that make staying there actually enjoyable. My room overlooked a small garden bursting with lavender and rosemary bushes; you’d wake up to the faint hum of birds and that herbal scent wafting in, especially in the quieter months like October when Verona’s not swamped with opera crowds at the Arena. Breakfast was a highlight – fresh croissants, local cheeses from the Veneto region, and homemade jams that tasted like they came straight from a nonna’s kitchen, served on this sunny terrace where you can linger without feeling rushed. It’s not huge, mind you – only a handful of rooms, so it feels personal, like you’re crashing at a friend’s elegant country house. Well, there was that one minor thing: the Wi-Fi dipped a tad in the evenings, probably because it’s a bit out from the main hubs, but hey, who needs constant scrolling when you’re sipping prosecco on the patio? And if you’re without a car, it’s a short bus ride to spots like Piazza Bra or Juliet’s House – line 52 stops nearby on Via Tombetta, which locals use all the time.

All in all, if you’re looking for a spot in Verona that lets you escape the bustle after a day of wandering the ancient streets or catching a show at the Arena – which, by the way, gets insanely packed in summer, so book tickets early – this place is magic. It’s got that 4-star polish without the stuffiness, and with a 9.3 rating, you can tell others feel the same. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for a romantic getaway; just pack light, as the stairs might be a workout with heavy bags. Trust me, it’s the kind of stay that lingers in your memory, like a sweet dream you don’t want to wake from.

  A beautiful family who own and operate this business, I was very well looked after, location is a short distance to the train station that gets you into Verona quickly, otherwise if you have a car it’s very secure and a lovely stay outside of Verona.

  We really enjoyed this clean, modern property located on a quite little country road 10-15 minute drive from the center of Verona. The location was perfect for us because we wanted easy access not just to Verona but to other nearby locations such as Sermione on Lake Garda and also the charming town of Borghetto. Excellent on-site parking and only 3 minutes from a village with an elegant local restaurant. Great breakfast every morning with a nice view into the garden.
  
  The hosts where great; sociable and eager to share their knowledge of the area, making many welcome suggestions on what to see and where to dine. Their recommendation on a modern underground parking facility, only 5 minute walk from the Roman arena in Verona center was a huge help, making our visit there super easy – not something to take for granted in historic Italian cities.
  
  An extra little bonus: The bedding was really special, featuring high quality memory foam mattresses that gave us the most comfortable sleep ever, completely absent of pressure points. We are now shopping for a similar mattress here in the US!
