You know what caught me off guard about the Best Western Plus Hotel De Capuleti? The name made me think it would be all touristy and over-the-top Romeo and Juliet themed, but honestly, it’s way more subtle and tasteful than that. I mean, there are nods to the literary connection here and there, but they didn’t go crazy with it – which I actually appreciate because that could have gotten old fast.

The whole place has this really comfortable, lived-in feeling that’s hard to find with chain hotels. The lobby doesn’t try too hard to impress you with marble and chandeliers, but there’s something really welcoming about it. I spent some time there one evening just catching up on emails, and the staff never made me feel like I was overstaying my welcome. Speaking of staff – they’re genuinely helpful without that rehearsed politeness you get sometimes. When I asked about getting around Verona, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map showing which streets to avoid during rush hour and where to find the best gelato (spoiler: not where all the tour groups go).

The rooms are solid – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. The beds are actually comfortable, not just adequate, and the shower has decent water pressure. I know that sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how many hotels mess up the fundamentals. The soundproofing is pretty good too; I could barely hear the street noise, and Verona can get surprisingly lively in the evenings. One thing I really liked was the little sitting area by the window – perfect for morning coffee while watching the city wake up. The Wi-Fi is reliable throughout the building, which saved me when I had to jump on a work call from the lobby.

What really sets this place apart is the location situation. You’re close enough to walk to the main sights without the chaos of being right in the thick of tourist central. I could stroll to the arena and Juliet’s balcony easily, but when I wanted to escape the crowds, I just walked back toward the hotel and found quieter streets with local cafes and shops. There’s actually a really good restaurant about two blocks away that serves the most incredible risotto – the kind of place you’d never find if you stayed in the super touristy zone. Parking can be a bit tricky in the immediate area, but the hotel staff know all the tricks and can point you toward spots that won’t break the bank.

The 8.8 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it delivers exactly what you want from a good base for exploring the city. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and run by people who seem to actually care about making your stay pleasant. Sometimes that’s worth more than all the fancy amenities in the world.

  Great location & very handsome buffet breakfast to set you up for the day. Room very clean & comfortable with a kettle & a fridge as standard. Staff very friendly & helpful & reception was staffed 24 hours.

  I had a superior room with a lovely quiet private terrace, two chairs and a table to sit out with. The location of the hotel within 7 minutes walk of the Roman arena was perfect too, very convenient for sightseeing and for going to events in the arena and for sightseeing. The Roman Theatre across the Ponte Pietra bridge is around a 25 minute walk but the city is safe to walk around in late at night as I did on my own after another summer event.
