Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Boheme Beths House kind of by accident last summer when I was in Verona for a quick getaway – I mean, I’d been to the city before, but always stuck to the touristy center around the Arena or Juliet’s balcony. This place is tucked away in Borgo Milano, right on Via Umbria, which is this quiet little street in a neighborhood that feels more like where actual Veronese live, you know? Not the polished historic core, but a spot near the Stadio Bentegodi – yeah, the football stadium – so if there’s a Hellas Verona match on, you might hear some distant cheers echoing over from a few blocks away, especially on weekends. I walked there from the Porta Nuova station; it took about 20 minutes, dodging a few scooters on the way, and honestly, it was a nice change from the crowded buses. The building itself is on the first floor (piano 1, as they say here), up a short flight of stairs, and when I arrived all sweaty from the July heat, the owner – Beth, I think? – greeted me with this big smile and a chilled glass of water. No fancy lobby, just a cozy entryway that smells faintly of fresh laundry and whatever herbs she’s got growing on the windowsill.
What really won me over was how the place feels like staying at a friend’s artsy apartment rather than some sterile hotel – it’s got that bohemian vibe, with mismatched vintage furniture, colorful throws everywhere, and these quirky wall hangings that look like they’ve been collected from flea markets around Lake Garda (which, by the way, is an easy day trip from here if you rent a car). My room was simple but spotless, with a comfy bed that didn’t creak like some older spots I’ve crashed in, and a tiny balcony overlooking the street – perfect for sipping espresso in the morning while watching locals cycle by on their way to work. The bathroom’s modern enough, with good water pressure (a rarity in some Italian B&Bs, let me tell you), though the shower’s a bit compact if you’re tall like me. Breakfast isn’t a huge spread – think fresh croissants, yogurt, and fruit from the nearby market on Via San Marco, which is just a five-minute stroll away – but it’s served with that personal touch, and Beth even chatted with me about hidden spots in Verona, like the quiet paths along the Adige River for a sunset walk. Oh, and parking? It’s street parking mostly, so arrive early if you’re driving; it can get tight during peak season, but there’s a garage a couple blocks over on Viale Andrea Palladio if you need it. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful at night, aside from the occasional Vespa buzzing past, but nothing that kept me up.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s authentically Verona without the inflated prices of the centro storico – and trust me, this one’s rated a solid 9.5 for good reason – Boheme Beths House is a gem. It’s only about a 15-minute bus ride to the Arena (grab the number 11 from the stop on Corso Milano), so you’re not isolated, but you get that local immersion. I left feeling like I’d actually experienced the city, not just ticked off sights – plus, it’s budget-friendly for a 3-star, especially off-season in fall when the crowds thin out and the air smells like roasting chestnuts from street vendors. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple, book it; just maybe pack earplugs if there’s a big game on. You won’t regret it.
