Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Cà dell’Orto in my rental car last spring – it was one of those warm Verona afternoons where the air smells faintly of blooming jasmine and the Adige River nearby. Tucked away on Via F. Da Levanto in the San Zeno neighborhood, it’s not smack in the middle of the tourist chaos around the Arena or Piazza delle Erbe, which honestly was a relief after a day dodging selfie sticks. You know, San Zeno has that lived-in feel – think narrow streets lined with old stone buildings and locals chatting outside little cafes like the one on Via Porta San Zeno, just a short walk away. Parking was a breeze; they have their own spots out back, which is gold in a city where circling for ages is the norm. Check-in was casual – the owner, this friendly guy named Marco (I think? Or was it Matteo?), handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the Wi-Fi and where to grab the best gelato nearby. No fuss, no long lines; it felt more like crashing at a friend’s place than a hotel.
What really won me over were the apartments themselves – I mean, they’re not just rooms; most come with full kitchens stocked with basics like olive oil and coffee pods, which saved me a ton on eating out every night. Mine overlooked this lush little garden – hence the name, Cà dell’Orto, “House of the Garden” in Venetian dialect, I learned from a chatty neighbor. You’d wake up to birds chirping and the faint hum of the city waking up, but it’s surprisingly quiet here, especially compared to the buzzier spots closer to the center. The decor’s a mix of modern and rustic – think exposed brick walls, comfy linens that actually feel fresh (not that starchy hotel stuff), and bathrooms with rain showers that make you linger. Oh, and there’s a pool out back, which was a godsend in May when the temps started climbing; I spent an afternoon just floating there, listening to distant church bells from the Basilica di San Zeno, which is literally a five-minute stroll away. It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy – well-maintained, spotless, but with personal touches like fresh herbs in the communal areas. One minor gripe? The air conditioning can be a bit finicky in the older wings, but nothing a quick call to the front desk didn’t fix.
Honestly, if you’re planning a trip to Verona and want something more authentic than the big chains downtown, this place is a gem – especially for couples or families who need space to spread out. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the historic center across the Ponte di Castelvecchio (gorgeous at sunset, by the way), or you can hop on a bus from nearby Via San Giuseppe. We timed our stay for mid-week in spring to avoid the summer crowds, and it was perfect – peaceful evenings wandering to osterias in San Zeno for plates of bigoli pasta. With that 9.6 rating, it’s no surprise; it’s the kind of spot that makes you rethink those rushed hotel stays. I’d go back in a heartbeat – heck, I sort of wish I was there now, sipping espresso in that garden.

The property has a very modern and pleasant structure both inside and outside, perfectly in tune with the surrounding zone, next to Adige river and outside of the crowded center of Verona. The apartment itself is wide, comfy and well-lighted thanks to all the windows on the external walls (our apartment was on the corner for the building). Staff is very professional, kind and available, giving you advices about places to visit and how to get there.

Everything was superb
Chiara is a very kind, professional person, from the first minutes we realized that she is a wonderful person, she provided us with all the necessary information.
And the property is a dream, the inner courtyard, the pool,… parking spaces in the courtyard, underground, the rooms are very clean, equipped with everything you need, and the view from our room was fantastic, view of the mountain, the river, the cathedral.
We felt like home.
Thank you Chiara, we will definitely come back.Cheryl from United Kingdom – 4 October 2024 (10/10)
It was clean, modern and had good facilities. The family running the rooms and apartments were friendly and really helpful.
Would happily stay there again.
What could be improved: Nothing. The outdoor pool isn’t heated so consider that, if going later in the year when the temperatures are not as hot.Kenneth from United States – 2 October 2024 (10/10)
The hosts were incrediby friendly and helpful with anything we needed. The grounds were beautiful and the room was spacious wih a lovely furnished balcony. If you are using Verona as a hub or if you simply need time to relax, this is the PERFECT place.
