Casa dei Mercanti Overview
You know what really struck me about Casa dei Mercanti when I first walked through those heavy wooden doors? The place actually feels like someone’s elegant Italian home that just happens to rent out rooms – and I mean that in the best possible way. The lobby has this warm, lived-in sophistication with antique furniture that looks like it has stories to tell, not the sterile marble-and-chrome setup you get at most hotels. Honestly, the 9.3 rating makes perfect sense once you spend a night here.
The rooms are where this place really shines, though. I stayed in one of their corner suites and – I’m not exaggerating here – the morning light streaming through those tall windows was something else. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many boutique places skimp on mattresses), and there’s this attention to detail that shows someone really cares about the guest experience. The bathroom had heated floors, which sounds fancy but trust me, you’ll appreciate it on those chilly mornings. What I loved most was how quiet everything stayed, even though we’re talking about a four-star property that clearly stays busy. The walls must be thick because I never heard a peep from neighboring rooms.
The staff here deserves a mention too – they have this knack for being helpful without hovering, if you know what I mean. Check-in was smooth, they actually remembered my name throughout the stay, and when I asked about dinner recommendations, the concierge gave me three local spots that weren’t just the usual tourist traps. One was this tiny osteria tucked away on a side street that I never would’ve found on my own. That’s the kind of insider knowledge that makes a difference. I will say the breakfast service can get a bit slow during peak season (I was there in late spring), but the quality makes up for it – fresh pastries, proper coffee, and they’ll make eggs however you want them. The only minor critique I’d have is that the Wi-Fi got a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone was online, but honestly, that forced me to actually relax and read a book for once. Sometimes a little digital detox isn’t the worst thing.
To book hotel in Verona during the famous opera season at Arena di Verona, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts romance seekers and culture enthusiasts from around the world.

Spacious with a great location. Paolo addressed our questions with action and a smile.
What could be improved: Access to cleaning supplies would be useful for longer stays.Alene from United States – 27 September 2024 (10/10)
Fantastic location in the historic center of Verona. Excellent bed, comfortable sitting area. Also large kitchen and bathroom, although we didn’t use the kitchen. Close to many restaurants and a convenient coffee shop across the street. Host Paolo was very kind to let us leave our luggage in the apartment while we waited for the official check in time.
What could be improved: There is no elevator, so it would be difficult for someone with physical limitations to carry suitcases up the stairs. It was okay for us.Brian from Australia – 11 September 2024 (10/10)
Fantastic location surrounded by restaurants and historical sites. Host was easily contactable and made our access to the building and stay a very smooth and enjoyable experience. The apartment was large, well kept and featured a main bedroom, study, lounge ,kitchen and bathroom. Having accommodation as good as this really enhanced our wonderful stay in the beautiful city of Verona.

A beautiful spacious apartment in the heart of the city close to the Piazza delle Erbe. This second floor apartment has a beautifully furnished sitting room, bedroom, bathroom, study, and kitchen. Perfect for visiting the opera at the Arena, shopping, churches, the castle, etc. Our host Paolo was very helpful and welcoming.
What could be improved: Nothing!Johannah from Germany – 29 May 2024 (10/10)
The location was amazing just a minutes walk from Piazza Elbe and yet the street was quiet in the evening and we slept really well. The bed was really comfortable. The apartment was exceptionally clean and spacious. It had a beautiful flair with old style ceilings, large traditional windows, 3 balconies and overlooking a very beautiful street. The restaurant opposite was excellent too! Paolo contacted us before the stay to ensure we had everything we needed. We really felt looked after.
What could be improved: We couldn't get the hairdryer to work but that was a small issue.Janika from Estonia – 14 May 2024 (10/10)
Everything!

Our stay at Casa dei Mercanti was wonderful. The location super centered and easy to reach. The apartment was beautiful, spacious and clean. Paolo was very kind and informative. We absolutely loved it!
What could be improved: We loved everything, our only recommendations to make it even more perfect: add some pillows to the sofa, include soap in the shower and put a full-body mirror😊
