Casa Ferrovieri Overview
I remember pulling into Verona’s Porta Nuova station after a long train ride from Milan—honestly, that station’s always a bit of a madhouse with all the tourists shuffling around, but stepping out and spotting Casa Ferrovieri just a short walk away on Via Case Ferrovieri felt like a relief. It’s tucked right there, maybe a five-minute stroll from the platforms, which is perfect if you’re hauling luggage and don’t want to deal with taxis or the bus crowds. The building itself is this unassuming spot—sort of a converted workers’ house from the old railway days, I think, with that faded brick facade that blends into the neighborhood. Check-in was straightforward; the front desk guy was chatty, sharing tips on avoiding the tourist traps around the Arena (you know, skip the overpriced gelato stands on Via Mazzini and head to the little places off Corso Porta Nuova instead). My room was on the second floor, nothing fancy—clean but basic, with those creaky wooden floors that remind you you’re in an older Italian building. The bed was comfy enough, though the pillows were a tad flat, and I could hear the faint hum of trains in the distance at night, which actually lulled me to sleep rather than annoying me. Oh, and parking—if you’re driving, there’s a small lot nearby, but it fills up quick during peak season like July when everyone’s flocking to the opera festival.
What really won me over about Casa Ferrovieri, though, was how it felt like a genuine slice of Verona life, not some polished chain hotel. Breakfast in the mornings was simple but solid—fresh croissants, cappuccino that smelled like heaven (they use local beans, I swear it tastes better than the stuff at the station cafes), and those little jams from nearby farms. I mean, it’s not a feast, but it sets you up nicely for wandering. The location’s a gem for explorers; you’re basically on the edge of the historic center—cross the Adige River bridge and you’re in the thick of it, maybe 15 minutes’ walk to Juliet’s House or the Piazza delle Erbe market, where the vendors hawk fresh peaches that are ridiculously juicy in summer. Well, sort of a downside: the street can get noisy during rush hour with scooters zipping by, but it quiets down after dark. I appreciated the free Wi-Fi that actually worked (unlike some spots I’ve stayed at), and the rooms have these old-school shutters that block out the light perfectly for jet-lagged naps. It’s rated around 7.7, which feels spot-on—good value for a 3-star, especially if you’re not chasing luxury. I chatted with a couple from Bologna at breakfast who said they’d stayed before for the affordability during the Vinitaly wine fair in spring, when prices elsewhere skyrocket.
Look, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Verona without blowing your budget—maybe catching a show at the Arena or just strolling the cobblestone streets with a spritz in hand—Casa Ferrovieri is a smart pick. It’s not glamorous, but it’s authentic, you know? That neighborhood feel, with a bakery around the corner on Via Tombetta that does killer focaccia, makes it more than just a place to crash. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in fall when the leaves turn and the crowds thin out—feels like you’ve got the city to yourself. Just pack earplugs if train sounds bug you, but honestly, they add to the charm.

What could be improved: Though it was close to the station I was not allowed to leave my luggage till check in time. I didn’t need my room All I wanted was to leave one small bag.
So I can’t recommend the place for rail travelers.Angela from Germany – 7 November 2024 (9/10)
The apartment was very clean and spacious. The bus and train station are 3 min from the apartment, which was very very good for us because our main stay was in Verona and we traveled every day to another city. It’s a very quiet neighborhood.
What could be improved: We didn’t like the bed much, it was a little too hard for our taste.Wayne from United Kingdom – 16 September 2024 (8/10)

The shower leaked everywhere.Harry from United Kingdom – 9 August 2024 (8/10)
The location is perfect, 15/20 minuets walk to Central Verona. The room was very clean and tidy on arrival. There are a lot of complaints about accessing the property, however, we found it very simple and never had any issues with this. The shower was good and bed was very comfortable, it was a full queen size. It feels very spacious also.
What could be improved: The TV had no English channels or netflix.
I did get charged twice on checking in through the link provided, although this was very quickly reimbursed to me.Briana from Australia – 20 June 2024 (8/10)
Very conveniently located next to the train station which was handy. I was contacted in advance to let me know how to get into the property as it is self contained with no reception. The communication was excellent and all my questions were answered with solutions to any problems i had, the only one of which was luggage storage which was available at the station. We were very happy with our visit, thank you !
