Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Casa Gabry on Corso Milano – you know, that bustling stretch in Borgo Milano, right near the Stadio Bentegodi where all the Hellas Verona fans flock on match days. It’s not smack in the touristy heart of Verona, like around the Arena or Piazza delle Erbe, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, if you’re driving in from the A4 autostrada, it’s a breeze to get to – no weaving through those narrow centro storico lanes that make you sweat bullets. We arrived around dusk last summer, and the building itself is one of those unassuming Italian palazzos with a simple intercom at the gate. Buzz in, climb up to the primo piano (that’s the first floor, folks – no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing), and you’re greeted by this warm, family-run vibe. The owner, Gabriele – yeah, that’s where the “Gabry” comes from – was there with a genuine smile, sorting check-in in a mix of English and Italian, even tossing in tips on where to grab a spritz without the crowds. The street can get a bit noisy during rush hour, what with the scooters zipping by, but by evening it quiets down to this cozy hum, and the faint scent of baking bread from the panificio down the block wafts up – pure Italy.

What really sold me on the place was how it felt like a home away from home, not some sterile hotel chain. Our room was spacious for a 4-star spot – think high ceilings, wooden floors that creak just a little (in a charming way, not annoying), and a balcony overlooking the courtyard where you can sip your morning espresso without the world rushing by. The bed? Super comfy, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender – I slept like a log after walking all day. Breakfast is included, and it’s no buffet extravaganza, but fresh croissants, local cheeses, and that killer cappuccino machine make it worthwhile; we even chatted with other guests about hidden gems like the Giardino Giusti gardens, which are a 20-minute stroll away across the Adige River. Oh, and parking – that’s a biggie in Verona. They have a few spots in the back, but book ahead because street parking on Corso Milano is a nightmare during events at the stadium. It’s rated an 8.5 for good reason; everything’s clean and thoughtful, from the free Wi-Fi that actually works to the little fridge stocked with San Pellegrino. Sure, the bathroom’s on the smaller side – sort of compact, like many older buildings here – but the rain shower head more than makes up for it.

Look, if you’re visiting Verona for the opera season at the Arena (which is magical, by the way, but gets insanely crowded in July and August), Casa Gabry is a smart pick to escape the frenzy without being too far out. It’s about a 10-minute bus ride or a pleasant 30-minute walk to the city center, passing by spots like the Castelvecchio bridge where locals jog in the mornings. We saved a ton compared to those overpriced spots near Juliet’s balcony, and it felt authentic – you know, mingling with actual Veronese folks at the nearby trattorias on Via San Nazaro, trying their bigoli pasta. Minor gripe? The air conditioning can be finicky in peak heat, but they fixed it quick when we mentioned it. Overall, I’d go back in a heartbeat; it’s that rare find where you feel like you’ve got an insider’s edge on the city, not just a bed for the night. If you’re after quiet evenings and easy access to both the action and some off-the-beaten-path vibes, this place delivers.

    L'appartamento è confortevole, accogliente e ben organizzato.
Un altro punto a favore è la fermata dell'autobus proprio sotto casa, comodissima per spostarsi facilmente.
    CONSIGLIATISSIMO!
