CASA LORENZO Overview

I stumbled upon Casa Lorenzo last summer when I was chasing that perfect Verona getaway without the insane crowds of the historic center – you know, the kind that swarm around the Arena during opera season. It’s tucked away in Borgo Roma, on this quiet little street called Via Campagnol di Tombetta, which honestly feels more like a neighborhood where actual Veronese folks live rather than a tourist trap. I mean, it’s not right in the thick of things, but that’s part of the charm – you’re about a 20-minute walk or a quick bus ride from Porta Nuova station, and from there, it’s easy to hop into the old town for Juliet’s balcony or a spritz at Piazza delle Erbe. Pulling up in my rental car (parking’s a breeze here, by the way, with spots right out front that don’t cost an arm and a leg), the place looked unassuming from the outside – sort of a modern three-story building with clean lines and a few potted plants waving in the breeze. But stepping inside? That fresh lemon scent hit me right away, like they’d just polished everything with citrus oil, and the owner, Lorenzo himself I think, greeted me with this warm, no-fuss vibe that made check-in feel like chatting with an old friend over espresso. He even tipped me off about a hidden gelateria down on Via Tombetta – Gelateria Pampanin, it’s called, and their pistachio is to die for, especially on those sweltering July afternoons.

What really sets Casa Lorenzo apart, though – and I say this as someone who’s bounced around a few spots in Veneto – is how it nails that cozy, lived-in feel without skimping on the essentials. The rooms are on the smaller side, sure, but they’re spotless and thoughtfully kitted out: think crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (no musty hotel funk here), a mini-fridge stocked with local beers like Birra Verona if you ask nicely, and bathrooms with those rain showers that make you linger a bit too long in the morning. I stayed in one facing the courtyard, and it was blissfully quiet at night – no blaring traffic from the nearby A4 highway, though you might hear the occasional scooter zipping by during rush hour. Breakfast was a highlight, too: nothing extravagant, but fresh croissants, cappuccinos made just right, and those little jars of homemade jam that taste like they came straight from a nonna’s kitchen. Oh, and if you’re into exploring off the beaten path, Borgo Roma’s got this underrated vibe – wander over to the Fiera di Verona for events if you’re timing it right (it’s literally a stone’s throw), or grab dinner at Trattoria al Pompiere nearby, where the bigoli pasta is hearty and the portions are generous. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but honestly, who needs it when you’ve got Verona’s sunsets to chase?

All in all, if you’re looking for a solid, no-drama base in Verona that punches way above its three-star weight – that 9.4 rating isn’t hype, it’s earned – Casa Lorenzo is your spot. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got an insider’s edge on the city, saving you euros on overpriced centro hotels while still letting you dive into the romance of it all. I left feeling refreshed, with a few extra tips scribbled in my notebook, and yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially in shoulder season like May, when the neighborhood blooms with wisteria and the crowds haven’t fully descended yet.

  • Lakkers from Switzerland – 14 October 2024 (10/10)

The owner and his daughter is very helpful. I was late to arrive and they waited until I arrive. communication is excellent. The room is very clean and well equipped. Also parking is available in the premises which is very handy.

  • Lucija from Germany – 6 August 2024 (9/10)

A very pleasant, clean and modern studio with a spacious bathroom and a kitchenette where you can prepare breakfast or a small meal. The location is quiet and safe, a bit far from the city centre but there are 2 bus lines that take you there in 15-20 minutes (they only operate till 9 pm, though). We really appreciated the private gated parking lot and the AC. There's also a small terrace but when we visited it was too hot to sit outside. The check-in and the communication beforehand were smooth, the staff very friendly.

  • Fv from Spain – 5 August 2024 (5/10)

    air-conditioning

What could be improved: It's very far from everything
    They don't change the towels
Value for money there are more interesting things

  • Paul from Romania – 23 July 2024 (10/10)

It’s’ a great place to stay, clean and modern. Even though the host was not speaking English that much, he was really friendly and there to help if needed.

What could be improved: The rooms were maybe a bit small, but nothing else

  • Amod from India – 20 July 2024 (8/10)

Decent hotel for a night stay. We stopped in Verona on our way to Milan. Room was well maintained with good facilities in a quiet residential area. A/C worked really well. We were greeted at check in and given clear instructions. Supermarket and bus stops are nearby.

What could be improved: Location is not exactly in city centre but we were aware about it while booking.

  • Lenka from Czech Republic – 2 March 2024 (10/10)

Great location if you attend Fiera Verona. Supermarket across the street to buy your breakfast. Restaurant with delicious italian cuisine around the corner. All you need for shortterm visit of Verona.
