Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to Casa Maggio on Via XXIV Maggio in Verona’s Borgo Trento neighborhood, I was already half in love with the place just from the drive in. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street, right across from the Adige River – honestly, the kind of spot where locals actually live, not just tourists snapping selfies. I remember arriving in the late afternoon during a sweltering July heatwave, and the free parking spot out front felt like a godsend – no circling blocks like you do in the centro storico, where everything’s a nightmare for cars. The building itself has that classic Veronese charm, with its pale stone facade and those wrought-iron balconies that catch the evening light just right. Check-in was a breeze; the host, this friendly guy named Marco (I think? – well, something Italian and welcoming), handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best nearby gelateria on Via Ponte Pietra, which is only a 10-minute stroll away. No stuffy lobby vibe here – it’s more like stepping into a well-kept apartment building, pet-friendly as advertised, and I saw a couple of dogs chilling in the courtyard without any fuss.
What really sold me on Casa Maggio, though, was how it balances that homey feel with some solid four-star perks, you know? The rooms are spacious – mine had these high ceilings and wooden floors that creaked just a bit underfoot, adding to the authentic old-building character – and the bed was comfy enough to crash after a day wandering the Arena (which, by the way, is an easy 15-minute walk across the Ponte Pietra bridge, dodging the occasional scooter). There’s a little kitchenette in each unit, stocked with basics like espresso pods and fresh towels that smelled faintly of lavender – sort of like staying at a friend’s place, but with air conditioning that actually works during those humid summer nights. Being pet-friendly is a huge plus if you’re traveling with a furry sidekick; my neighbor had a labrador that didn’t make a peep, and the small garden area out back is perfect for quick walks. Oh, and noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful for being so close to the action – you might hear the distant hum of the river or church bells from San Giorgio in Braida nearby, but nothing disruptive. That said, the Wi-Fi could be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, I mean, it’s Italy, so pack some patience or just unplug and enjoy the vibe.
All in all, if you’re hitting Verona for the opera season or just to soak up the Juliet balcony romance without the insane crowds, Casa Maggio is the kind of under-the-radar gem that makes you feel like you’ve got the inside scoop. It’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious – no spa or rooftop bar here – but that’s what makes it authentic, right? You’re steps from cozy trattorias on Lungadige San Giorgio, where you can grab a spritz and watch the world go by, and it’s way more affordable than those tourist traps near Piazza delle Erbe. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season like May when the wisteria blooms everywhere and the streets aren’t packed. Trust me, it’s the sort of place that turns a trip into a memory, parking woes and all.

Superb – Dragana from Serbia – 9 July 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: El ruido de las chicharrasGood – Jens from Germany – 16 June 2024 (7/10)
Sehr gute Lage in Laufdistanz zur Altstadt, saubere schöne kleine Wohnung. Wir würden wieder kommen.
What could be improved: Die Straße vor dem Schlafzimmerfenster ist recht laut. Die Check-in-Prozedur fand ich etwas umständlich.Tutto sommato sufficiente – Leonardo from Italy – 14 June 2024 (7/10)
Vicinanza all’ospedale. Parcheggio privato interno. Letti abbastanza comodi. Pulizia adeguata.
Un séjour ok – Giuliana from Switzerland – 13 May 2024 (7/10)
