Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Casa Marzia on Via Nicola Mazza – you know, that street tucked away in Verona’s university district, just a stone’s throw from the Adige River. It’s not smack in the tourist frenzy like around Piazza delle Erbe, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. I arrived in the late afternoon during opera season last summer, when the city’s buzzing with crowds heading to the Arena, and finding parking was a bit of a hassle – typical Verona, with those narrow streets and limited spots, so I ended up circling for a good 10 minutes before snagging a place nearby. But once I stepped inside, it was like a little oasis. The check-in was super smooth; the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco (I think?), chatted with me about the best spots for aperitivo on Via Cappello, which is only about a 15-minute walk away. You can hear the faint hum of students milling about outside – it’s lively without being overwhelming, especially in the evenings when things quiet down around 10 p.m.

What really won me over were the rooms – mine was on the second floor, with these old wooden beams overhead that gave it that authentic Veronese feel, like you’re staying in someone’s restored townhouse rather than some cookie-cutter hotel. The bed was plush, with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent or something), and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you linger a bit too long in the morning. Breakfast was a highlight – served in this cozy courtyard out back, with fresh croissants, prosciutto from nearby markets, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake you up for a day of exploring. It’s not huge, mind you; the place only has a handful of rooms, so it feels intimate, almost like a B&B with 4-star perks. That said, if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage, the stairs might be a minor annoyance – no elevator, but hey, it’s Italy, right? And during peak season, book early because it fills up fast with folks avoiding the pricier spots near the Arena. I actually spent one rainy afternoon just lounging in the common area, flipping through guidebooks while the sound of church bells from Sant’Anastasia echoed in the distance – it’s those little sensory details that stick with you.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Verona rather than just visiting, Casa Marzia is a gem. It’s got that 9.2 rating for a reason – great value, especially at around 150 euros a night off-season, and it’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who appreciate a mix of history and modern comfort. I mean, you could stay somewhere flashier downtown, but why bother when you’re this close to hidden gems like the Giardino Giusti gardens, just a quick stroll across the river? I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in spring when the wisteria blooms and the crowds are thinner. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you rethink those big chain hotels.

The location of the apartment was great. We were at walking distance from the historical center. The apartment itself was quiet and very cozy. The hostess was great, polite, and very helpful.

What could be improved: In reality, the space is perfect for two people. For four, it was a little bit crowded, but it is manageable for a shorter stay.

    hospitality and attention

  • A lovely little place with nice furniture in a great neighborhood. – Mario from Bulgaria – 18 May 2025 (10/10)

The place is very private, in a lively area, just a 6-7min walk away from the heart of Verona. Marzia is a lovely and kind host!

What could be improved: The walls are a bit too thin and you can practically hear anyone coming home, but this is common in Italy, unfortunately, so not something that can be avoided.
