Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Casa Turandot Verona almost by accident last summer – I was wandering the backstreets of the historical center after a long day at the Arena, you know, during opera season when the whole place buzzes with that electric energy. It’s tucked away at 19 Via Dietro Listone, on the first floor of this charming old building, just a stone’s throw from Piazza Bra but hidden enough that you escape the main tourist crush. Honestly, finding parking in Verona’s centro storico is a nightmare – those narrow cobblestone alleys aren’t made for cars – so I ditched mine at a garage near the river and walked the last bit, which took all of five minutes. The entrance is unassuming, sort of like stepping into a friend’s apartment rather than a hotel, and the check-in was a breeze; the owner greeted me with a genuine smile and a quick espresso, chatting about the best spots for aperitivo on Via Mazzini nearby. No stuffy front desk vibe here – it felt personal, like they actually cared if you’d had a good flight.

What really won me over, though, was how the place blends that classic Veronese elegance with modern comforts without trying too hard. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard – well, as quiet as it gets in July with the faint echo of church bells from San Zeno in the distance and the occasional scooter zipping by. The bed was plush, with those crisp linen sheets that smell faintly of lavender (I think they source them locally), and the bathroom had this massive rain shower that was a godsend after hiking up to Castelvecchio. It’s not huge – being a boutique spot on the first floor means no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing – but the details make up for it: fresh pastries and cappuccino for breakfast on a little terrace, free Wi-Fi that actually works (unlike some spots in town), and these thoughtful touches like recommending hidden gelaterias on Via Stella that tourists miss. I mean, it’s rated 9.7 for a reason; the staff even helped me snag last-minute tickets to a show at the Teatro Romano across the Adige. Oh, and if you’re there in the off-season, say winter, it’s blissfully peaceful – no crowds, just the soft hum of the city winding down.

Look, if you’re heading to Verona and want something authentic rather than one of those chain hotels on the outskirts, Casa Turandot is it. It’s not perfect – the location means some street noise filters in during peak hours, and it’s pricier than budget options – but for a 4-star gem right in the mix of Juliet’s House and the bustling markets on Piazza delle Erbe, it’s worth every euro. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a local secret, and honestly, I’d book it again in a heartbeat for that mix of history, hospitality, and heart. If you’re traveling solo or with a partner, go for it – just remember to wander down to the river at sunset; it’s magical from there.

  • Shawna from United States – 1 April 2024 (10/10)

We’ve stayed at a lot of apartments in Italy and this is hands down the best value we’ve found. This place was beautiful, historic, spacious and so comfortable for our group of 6. The little things took this place to the next level, like 2 decent pillows on the bed per person, free espresso pods and American coffee, free cake and sparkling wine and an umbrella to use. And the most helpful and responsive host that gave us many recommendations and tips before and during our stay. The location is fantastic- right next to the arena but quiet at night.

What could be improved: Could use a few hooks to hang towels in the bathroom.

  • Iryna from Ukraine – 5 April 2025 (9/10)

It's a very big house, very spacy, all facilities are there, central location, Anna is a pleasant host. The place reminds you as you are in museum. The beds are large downstairs

What could be improved: Maybe it is not enough light or dry air, the second shower is with mold, I noticed it after 1st use and then used the other one

  • Georgina from United Kingdom – 26 March 2025 (10/10)

Really loved the apartment. It was huge, very comfortable and clean. The owner was very helpful. Great location, just one street back from the main square.

  • Gabriela from Romania – 22 February 2025 (10/10)

    Simply everything

    What could be improved: None

  • Yogeshwar from India – 6 November 2024 (10/10)

In all my travel, I have never found a place to compare to this apartment, be it location, aesthetics or cleanliness. The host is generous to a fault, the supplies she left us (quantity and quality) were incredible. We even got a special pie and a bottle of wine. Hats off to this place.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Jon from United States – 18 October 2024 (9/10)

Amazing restored ancient building with clever architectural touches in the modernization.

What could be improved: Stairs up to second bedroom…hey, I'm old.

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 10 October 2024 (9/10)

The location couldn’t have been better. Sandra, the host was amazing, she couldn’t have been more helpful and gave us lots of great tips of places to eat and buy food. There was a generous supply of coffee for the Nespresso machine, a cake and n arrival as well as jams, wine and sweet treats.

What could be improved: It is a little dark.

  • Alexandra from United States – 19 August 2024 (10/10)

Location can’t be beat! 3 minute walk from the opera, so we went every evening 🙂 quiet street, good working AC. Great shower and fully stocked kitchen. The apartment is a historic sanctuary with wood beam ceilings.
