Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Casa Vacanze Mazzanti almost by accident last summer – well, not really by accident, since I’d booked it after hearing from a friend who’d stayed in Verona before. It’s tucked away on Via Mazzanti, right in the thick of the historical center, just a stone’s throw from Piazza delle Erbe where all those colorful market stalls pop up every morning. Honestly, arriving there after a train ride from Milan felt like stepping back in time; the cobblestone streets are narrow and winding, and you can smell the fresh espresso wafting from the little cafes nearby. Parking? Forget about it if you’re driving – the whole area’s pedestrian-only, so I left my rental at a garage on Via Emilei (about a 10-minute walk away, and it wasn’t cheap, around 25 euros a day). But once I got to the door at number 17, the check-in was a breeze – the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco, met me right on time, handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the Wi-Fi password and where to grab the best gelato (Gelateria Ponte Pietra, by the way, just around the corner on Via Ponte Pietra). No fancy lobby or anything; it’s more like a restored old building with apartments, which gives it that authentic, lived-in vibe – you know, creaky wooden floors that echo a bit when you walk, but in a charming way.
What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that old-world feel with modern comforts. My room – actually, it was more of a small apartment with a kitchenette – overlooked a quiet courtyard, so even though you’re smack in the middle of tourist central, the noise from the crowds on Via Cappello (that’s where Juliet’s balcony is, always packed with romantics) didn’t seep in much after dark. The bed was super comfy, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you linger a little too long in the morning. I mean, it’s not massive – if you’re traveling with kids or a ton of luggage, it might feel snug – but for a couple or solo trip, it’s perfect. I loved brewing my own coffee in the mornings and watching the sun hit the ancient stone walls outside; there’s something about that Verona light, all golden and soft, especially in July when the opera season at the Arena kicks off (tickets are a must if you’re there then, but book early – it gets insanely busy). Oh, and a small critique: the air conditioning hummed a tad loudly at night, but nothing earplugs couldn’t fix, and it kept the room cool during those sticky Italian afternoons.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels like your own little Verona hideaway rather than some impersonal chain hotel, Casa Vacanze Mazzanti is it. It’s got that 4-star polish without trying too hard – think high ratings for a reason, like the spotless cleanliness and thoughtful touches (fresh towels daily, even a welcome basket with local prosecco). You’ll be steps from everything: the Duomo’s bells ringing in the distance, riverside walks along the Adige, or quick bites at osterias on Via Sottoriva where the locals actually eat. I left feeling like I’d truly experienced the city, not just passed through – and yeah, I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in spring when it’s quieter and you can snag a table outside without the crowds. Trust me, it’s worth every euro for that real taste of Verona life.

Stay in a piece of history! – Judy from Australia – 22 May 2025 (10/10)
This is such a special property to stay in. The location is in the heart of Verona in an historic building which has been beautifully renovated and decorated. The apartment has everything we needed to feel comfortable and to prepare our own meals… but close enough to cafes and restaurants if cooking is not your thing!
Nicoló met us at the apartment on arrival and meticulously explained all the features and background of the apartment. There was milk, yoghurt, jams, tea and coffee provided. He also came when we were departing to make sure we had enjoyed our stay. These personal touches are what make travelling so interesting. It is on the fourth floor with a sensational view of Verona… don’t worry… there is a lift if you can’t mange the stairs!
What could be improved: There was nothing not to like.An excellent centrally located well managed apartment – Penelope from United Kingdom – 21 October 2024 (9/10)
Nicola was an excellent host.
He was informative and provided maps and useful information.
Ordered our departure taxi and came to the apartment to wish us farewell on departure day,
What could be improved: The tiny lift, However I managed the walk up and down the 110 stairs ( I am claustrophobic)Exceptional – Valeriia from Israel – 8 July 2024 (10/10)
Everything was perfect! The location is great! The apartments are new, while the renovation was done in an absolutely Venetian style house, which leaves an incredible impression! Wonderful hosts who helped with everything, gave recommendations!

Amazing stay in La Domus Picta
We spent 5 days. The location can't be better, is near to the Erbo square and Juliette house. The size is perfect for a group of 4.
Nicola, the host, left some yogurts, butter, water, coffee, tea, and a lot of stuff to eat! He waited for us in the door of the building and received the apartment when we left in the morning.
I would definitely stay there again if I had the opportunity! The perfect accommodation for everyone. Location views facilities are unbeatable. – Judith from Australia – 14 April 2024 (10/10)
Our favourite acomodation in Europe. The location, the hosts, the cleanliness, the space and the facilities are all unbeatable. The view of Verona from the windows is breathtaking.

The apartment is fabulous for its location, size, facilities, cleanliness and ambience. Our hosts were gracious, friendly & helpful. They left groceries in the fridge as a starter pack which was great. We would stay again in La Domus Picta.
Beautiful, historic but very comfortable Verona apartment with fabulous views in a superb location. – Lucy from United Kingdom – 2 September 2023 (9/10)
Fabulous location, literally around the corner from Piazza Erbe, on a main shopping road. A gentle stroll to all other visitor attractions No need for transport.
The apartment itself is on the 3rd floor, but there is a small lift suitable for 2 people. It is large and airy with a separate double bedroom and twin beds on a mezzanine. Perfect for our family. The beds were very clean and comfortable. The large bathroom has a large walk in shower with good water pressure and a bidet alongside the toilet. Plenty of large towels and toiletries were available. The small kitchen has everything you need and there are lots of pots, pans, cups, glasses etc. The washing machine was a bonus as was the dishwasher. Hairdryers were Also available. The apartment benefits from air conditioning. There is lots of storage throughout. The apartment was very clean. Despite being in the bustling centre, the apartment was very quiet and peaceful.
The hosts were very welcoming and we were made to feel very comfortable. They provided lots of information about restaurants and visitor attractions. (The Verona City pass is a cost cutter for anyone intending to visit the churches and museums) They provided lots of additional touches like toiletries, washing tablets, milk, yoghurts, water…..A real home from home; we could easily have lived there.
And the view from the picture windows across the rooftops of Verona was truly spectacular.
