Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Cavour44 – Palazzo Canossa almost by accident last summer, right in the thick of Verona’s historical center on Corso Cavour. You know, that bustling street that cuts through the old town, lined with those classic Italian cafes where locals grab their morning espresso and argue about soccer. I’d just come from wandering around Piazza delle Erbe – which, honestly, is only a five-minute stroll away – and there it was, this elegant 18th-century palazzo tucked between a gelateria and some antique shops. The entrance isn’t flashy; it’s more like stepping into a well-kept secret, with these heavy wooden doors that creak just enough to remind you of the building’s age. Check-in was a breeze – the staff, a mix of friendly Veronese folks, handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best nearby osteria for cacio e pepe (try the one on Via Pellicciai, by the way, it’s unpretentious and packed with locals). No massive lobby or anything; it’s intimate, which I appreciated after a long train ride from Milan. Oh, and parking? Well, Verona’s old center is a nightmare for cars – they have a deal with a nearby garage on Via Roma, but book it ahead if you’re driving, or you’ll end up circling like I did for 20 minutes.
What really hooked me was how they’ve blended the palazzo’s historic bones with modern perks without making it feel stuffy. My room overlooked the courtyard – quiet as can be, even though Corso Cavour gets lively in the evenings with folks heading to the Arena for opera season (pro tip: if you’re here in July or August, snag tickets early; the place vibrates with that dramatic energy). The bed was plush, with these crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger – though, I mean, the water pressure dipped a bit in the mornings when everyone’s up. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms, but hey, you’re in Verona, put the phone down and enjoy the view. Breakfast was a highlight – served in this sunny atrium with fresh pastries, local cheeses, and coffee strong enough to wake the dead. I spent an afternoon just lounging there, listening to the distant chime of bells from the Duomo, which is literally a stone’s throw away. And get this: the place is sort of hidden from the tourist throngs, so while Juliet’s House is just around the corner on Via Cappello (overrated, if you ask me – too crowded), you can escape back here for some peace.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Veronese without the chain-hotel vibe, Cavour44 is a gem. It’s got that 4-star polish with a 9.3 rating that actually holds up – not overhyped, just solid. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in spring when the streets are quieter and you can hear the Adige River murmuring nearby. Sure, it’s pricier than some budget spots, but for the location and that palazzo charm – the cool marble floors underfoot, the faded frescoes on the walls – it’s worth it. Just pack light; there’s no elevator in parts of the building, and those stairs add to the adventure. You know what? It made my trip memorable, turning a simple Verona visit into something that felt like living in a piece of history.

Great location, quality of the room and kitchenette – Cecilia from Canada – 30 June 2025 (10/10)
The location is great to visit the sites in La città antica. You can walk everywhere. It is very close to the Arena di Verona
Very good communication with Massimo and excellent service.
What could be improved: Everything was great. This is a fabulous place to stay! – Linda from United States – 14 June 2025 (10/10)
The room was pleasant, spacious, well furnished, clean and had a mini kitchen. It was walking distance to everything. We could have easily stayed there a couple of weeks.
What could be improved: Nothing!Great stay – Ioana from Austria – 7 June 2025 (10/10)
Everything was great, a trully special place. Communication with the owner was excellent, parking was available at the location and everything was at a walking distance
Exceptional – Nicole from United States – 3 June 2025 (10/10)
It's not an average place to stay. Not a hotel exactly but not a single apartment. It's a wing of an old Palazzo/small Villa that is the only way to explain. It is very special and easy to get to everything from this location. It's gated and on the river. I would recommend if you are a private person and prefer quite a non crowded establishment.
Verona – Jan from Australia – 30 May 2025 (10/10)
The property was clean, secure and in a great location. Close to attractions and restaurants. Host was very friendly
Wonderful Apartment – Hall from United Kingdom – 29 May 2025 (9/10)
Where do I start? The location is excellent to explore Verona, everything within walking distance. 15 minute walk to the station or a short bus ride ( busstop close by). Only a 25 minute train ride to Lake Garda. Very beautiful and very secure building, if you are hiring a car the parking is excellent.
The bed is extremely comfy with plenty of cushions. The little road opposite has a lovely family run restaurant, which is one of the best meals we had on holiday, everything homemade – Enocibus Al Promo D'Oro. I would definitely recommend the property to anyone wanting to explore the lovely city of Verona.
What could be improved: It was perfectLoved our stay at Cavour 44. – Karl from United States – 25 May 2025 (9/10)
Great location. The bedroom was very large and beautifully appointed. The manager and his son were exceptionally nice.
What could be improved: Many doors to go through to get to your room, and there’s about a thirty step climb.Palazzo living – Denise from Australia – 23 May 2025 (8/10)
Walking into an old palazzo, up the grand stairs and then into our converted and very modern studio apartment was quite a thrill. We could touch the ceiling with our hands, it felt like a fairy tale, and it although it was all very compact, it worked.
The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Great location too.We enjoyed our visit to Verona and would stay at this property again. The hosts were very friendly and responsive. – Emre from United States – 22 May 2025 (10/10)
The location was perfect for getting to all the attractions and was very quiet. The room was very clean and nicely decorated.
What could be improved: There was supposed to be laundry facilities however the washing machine wasn’t working during our stay.Perfect B&B in a glorious historic city and a thoughtful and generous host. Perfect – Rob from Australia – 18 May 2025 (10/10)
We loved everything about this B&B. Our host Massimo met us with our keys and a thorough overview of the facility etc. He was generous and available if we needed him. The B & B was wonderful in everyway and being part of a historic building and palazzio made it very special indeed. Its position in the historic centre of beautiful Verona was also amazing. We walked everywhere we wanted to see. We would highly recomend this B&B and Verona to anyone travelling in Italy. Thank you Massimo. June and Rob
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing!
