Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Chez Soi Verona almost by accident last spring, right after dodging the crowds spilling out from Piazza delle Erbe. It’s tucked away on this narrow little alley, Vicolo Torcoletto, which – honestly – feels like one of those hidden spots only locals bother with, away from the main drag of Via Mazzini where all the shops and tourists cluster. I mean, you’re literally steps from Juliet’s balcony (yeah, the one from Romeo and Juliet, though it’s more kitschy than romantic these days), but the hotel itself is this quiet oasis in Verona’s historical center. Walking up to the door, I was hit with that classic Italian building vibe – old stone walls with a fresh coat of paint, and these wrought-iron balconies that catch the afternoon sun just right. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm guy named Marco, greeted me like an old friend, handing over a key and a quick map scribbled with his favorite nearby gelato spot on Via Cappello. No fuss, no long lines – well, except maybe during the opera season in summer when the Arena amps up and everything gets busier.
What really won me over, though, was how it lives up to its name – “Chez Soi” means “at home” in French, and yeah, it sort of feels like that, but with a Verona twist. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re spotless and cozy, with these high ceilings and exposed beams that make you feel like you’re in some historic palazzo (minus the dust). I stayed in one overlooking the alley, and mornings started with the faint chime of bells from the nearby Duomo – not too loud, just enough to remind you where you are. The bed linens were that crisp, high-thread-count stuff that smells faintly of lavender, and there’s a little kitchenette if you want to grab some prosciutto from the market and pretend you’re a local. Breakfast is simple but solid – fresh croissants, cappuccino that’s actually strong enough to wake you up, served in a sunny courtyard where you can hear birds chirping over the distant hum of scooters. Parking’s a bit of a hassle in the center (I ended up using a garage a few blocks away on Via Stella for about 20 euros a day), and if you’re not great with stairs, note there’s no elevator – but that’s part of the charm in these old buildings, you know? One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times in the evening, probably from all the thick walls, but nothing that ruined the stay.
Look, if you’re heading to Verona for that romantic escape or just to soak in the history without the overwhelming tourist buzz, Chez Soi is a gem. It’s got that 9.7 rating for a reason – personal service, prime spot without the noise (nights are surprisingly peaceful, even with the occasional late-night revelers wandering back from the bars on Corso Porta Borsari), and it just makes you feel settled in a way bigger hotels don’t. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in fall when the leaves turn and the crowds thin out. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that sticks with you, like a little piece of home in the heart of Italy.

Sergio from Italy – 30 March 2025 (8/10)
Appartamento in quartiere Filippini (centro storico Verona) molto ben attrezzato e ampio.
Ottima disponibilità dell’host.
Unica vera pecca il divano letto della camera più piccola, davvero pessimo.
Suggerisco cambio con letto vero, il divano in questa camera non serve a molto, dato che il soggiorno è molto grande.
