Collina di Verona Borgo San Mattia Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Collina di Verona Borgo San Mattia? It’s one of those places that feels like a well-kept secret, even though it’s gotten some serious recognition (we’re talking a 9.3 rating here, which honestly doesn’t happen by accident). The moment you arrive, you realize this isn’t just another converted villa trying to be boutique – it’s actually got that authentic borgo feel that so many places try to fake.
The setting is what really gets you first. I mean, you’re literally on the hills overlooking Verona, and when I say overlooking, I don’t mean some distant glimpse through trees. On clear mornings – and there are plenty of those – you can see the city spreading out below while you’re having your coffee, and it’s the kind of view that makes you understand why people have been fighting over this region for centuries. The building itself has that weathered stone look that screams history, but inside they’ve managed to blend modern comfort without destroying the character. The rooms have these thick walls that keep things cool in summer (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in July), and the floors have that satisfying weight when you walk across them – you know, the kind that reminds you this place has been here a while.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re far enough from the main tourist chaos that you actually sleep well, but close enough that getting into the city center isn’t a production. The staff here knows their stuff too – not in that overly rehearsed way, but like they genuinely live in the area and can point you toward things you wouldn’t find otherwise. I had this conversation with the front desk about local wine producers that ended up being better than half the tours I’ve taken. The breakfast situation is solid – local ingredients, nothing fancy, but you can tell they care about where things come from. And honestly, eating outside on those terraces in the morning while looking out over the valley… well, it sort of spoils you for hotel breakfast rooms with no windows. The only minor thing is that if you’re planning to walk everywhere, you’ll want to factor in that you’re on a hill – it’s beautiful, but your calves will know it. Still, for a four-star place that actually delivers on the experience, this borgo has figured out how to feel both peaceful and connected, which is harder to pull off than it sounds.

Absolutley stunning properties beautiful setting and view of verona.
Really comfortable bedroom. Shared kitchen and living space nice had what you needed.
Had a lot of banging over our stay, which was not from the property, but presume was some groundwork or heavy machinery somewhere from 8am tip 10pm ish… presume that is not there most of the time as detracted from the lovely peaceful location.
Was some miss communication on booking.com re pool being available, as winter, it is not as not heated (totally understandable) acknowledged and will be altered for future guests' knowledge. Will definitely be back though to experience the pool!
Just a couple of tweaks that might be helpful…
Guests to be greeted when you go for breakfast for the first time of where to sit and where things are would be nice… other mornings, you know. Missing a few labels on condiments and cake etc as didn't know what they were or what was in them (thinking of those with alergies).
Pictures in room didn't match the surroundings.. I.e. beach pictures. Would be nice if had vineyard pictures or verona pictures to match the setting.
Bedside tables were unstable if not positioned correctly as spilt coffee when I put it onto the table due to this.
Oh and a couple more vegetarian options and soft drink options on the restaurant menu would be nice as quite limited. But the staff were so helpful and considerate couldn't do enough for us!
Thank you for a lovely stay and we will be back to see you in the future.Pina from Italy – 26 March 2025 (9/10)

This hotel's location is a major plus. The views of Verona are amazing. I really enjoyed just looking out and taking it all in. It was so peaceful and relaxing.
Wow, breakfast was a real treat! So many different things to choose from, I didn't know where to start. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful.
What could be improved: The room could really use a deeper clean. Daily cleaning felt rushed and not very thorough. They even forgot to restock the complimentary water bottles on the second day. That's not great service.Asp from United Kingdom – 22 February 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Checkin procedure is a guess game especially if checking in at night. A map some signs, locker or smartlock would make things a lot better. You have to go take the keys from a place then go to and try to find another place where you are actually staying.

It was very clean and staff was nice
What could be improved: The double bed was made with two separate materasses (not very comfortable)
Garage was full of staff and not very comfortable for parking the carDiederik from Netherlands – 19 August 2024 (3/10)
great location, close to the city if you have a car. nice breakfast.
What could be improved: much too expensive for what they give you. the whole “this is wholesome, this is ecological” vibe is old and tired. the rooms beed paint, the laissez faire, bric-et-brac atmosphere is annoying. we rented the family apartment. old furniture, very very old shower and bathroom. nice, okay, but not for this price. it is simply too expensive. and too big. many many visitors. feels too much like a factory.Molly from United States – 4 July 2024 (9/10)
Amazing views of Verona, onsite restaurant and bar, tour of the winery and wine tasting. Daily breakfast had a lot of variety and farm fresh foods.
What could be improved: lots of vegetations = bee sting
service at the restaurant was slow after our wine tasting (we did have a reservation) but it took an hour to get our food and a good 30 minutes for them to take our order.K from Poland – 7 May 2024 (5/10)
What could be improved: I am a bit disappointed by this stay. Lady at check in in the evening was unpleasnt. Breakfast was poor, there were no vegetables, even a tomato. I booked this stay, because this day my biyfriend had birthday and I thought it will be unfogottable stay. I wrote about his birthday. I wasn't exepecting much, but there was nothing.. even small cake with candle.. when I got birhday in Montenegro there were a lot of suprises from hotel and it was very kind. Even our room hadn't got nice view. When I wanted to see the view from terrace some lady come out and started shouting that this is privet terrace.. really strange. Such a shame, because place is really beuatiful.
