Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Corte Clocego on a warm afternoon last spring – you know, that time of year when Verona’s just starting to buzz with tourists but hasn’t hit the full opera season chaos at the Arena yet. The address is 14 Via Clocego, tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Borgo Venezia, about a 10-minute drive northeast from the historic center. Honestly, if you’re driving in from the A4 highway, it’s a breeze to find; no wrestling with ZTL zones or those narrow cobblestone alleys that swallow your rental car whole. The street itself is lined with those low-key apartment buildings and little family-run shops – think a corner bakery wafting fresh cornetti smells in the morning – and parking? There’s actually street spots nearby, or they have a small lot out back, which saved me from circling like a vulture. Check-in was straightforward; the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco (I think? – anyway, super friendly), handed over the keys with a quick rundown on bus 21 that zips you straight to Piazza Bra in under 15 minutes. It’s not flashy – three stars, after all – but the place has this charming old courtyard vibe, with ivy creeping up the stone walls and a few outdoor tables where you can sip espresso without the tourist hordes photobombing you.
What really won me over, though, was how it feels like staying at a friend’s converted farmhouse rather than some cookie-cutter hotel. The rooms are simple but spotless – mine had these exposed wooden beams and a comfy bed that didn’t creak like some budget spots I’ve endured – and the bathroom, well, it’s compact, Italian-style, with that strong water pressure you appreciate after a day wandering Verona’s bridges over the Adige. Breakfast is included, and it’s no frills but solid: fresh fruit, yogurt, those flaky pastries, and coffee that’s actually decent, not the watered-down stuff you get in chain places. I mean, it’s not gourmet, but paired with the courtyard birds chirping and the faint hum of neighborhood life – kids playing soccer down the street – it sets a relaxed tone. Oh, and if you’re into local tips, ask the staff about Trattoria al Pompiere nearby; it’s a short walk and serves the best risotto all’amarone without the inflated prices of central spots. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night, especially compared to the rowdy bars around Juliet’s House – though if you’re a light sleeper, note that mornings might bring some delivery trucks rumbling by around 7 a.m. The Wi-Fi’s reliable too, which mattered when I was plotting my day trips to Lake Garda, just a 30-minute drive west.
All in all, with its 8.9 rating, Corte Clocego’s a smart pick if you’re after that authentic Verona experience without breaking the bank – think around 80-100 euros a night off-season. It’s not right in the thick of things, so if you hate public transport or walking a bit (it’s about 3 km to the center, sort of uphill on the way back), maybe opt for something downtown. But for me, that slight remove was a plus; you get to see the real side of the city, like grabbing gelato at the unpretentious spots along Via Unità d’Italia. If you’re road-tripping through Veneto or just want a cozy base for the Arena festivals – book early for July, it fills up – I’d say go for it. It’s the kind of place that leaves you feeling like you’ve actually lived a little in Italy, not just passed through.

We had a great stay in Corte Clocego. Lovely family and lovely landscape. Right the first day we had a wine-tasting in the authentic kitchen of the family. It was magic.

The tranquility of the area away from the city noise is a great advantage together with the facilities and the cleanliness of the apartment.
What could be improved: Maybe the location which is a little far if you don't have a car but it will compensate if you love quiet areasExceptional – Ramona from Germany – 14 August 2022 (10/10)

excellent – Robeyns from Belgium – 24 July 2022 (9/10)
very quiet and comfortable room in the countryside and still close from Verona.
it was a pleasure to meet Luca and Silvia, the owners, and learn about their experience as farmers and producers of wine and oil of olive….and to taste of course. Delicious.
What could be improved: because of the canicule, it was hot in the bedrooms at night, despite the fan. hopefully air conditioning will be installed for next summer !Superb – Katarzyna from Poland – 13 December 2022 (9/10)
What is a heart of this place is his owner who really shows love to this house and land. Me and my family appreciated his warm welcome, olive tasting and side show on how he makes his wine. My mom was so happy when we could also taste some fruits from his garden. View is amazing and every piece of furtiture have its history. Good location, close to the centre of Verona. We will be back☺
What could be improved: As an improvement I would suggest bigger or more duvets. In September it already gets cold by night.Exceptional – Calvi from Italy – 27 April 2025 (10/10)
