Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Design Rooms Verona on Via San Carlo – it’s this quiet little street in Borgo Trento, you know, that neighborhood just across the Adige River from the main historic center. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first because it’s only a 3-star spot, but the moment I stepped inside, it felt like one of those hidden gems that locals whisper about. The building itself is tucked away from the tourist chaos, so no dodging selfie sticks or gelato vendors right outside your door – instead, you’re surrounded by those charming residential blocks with old stone facades and the occasional Vespa zipping by. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly guy named Marco (I think?), handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best nearby osteria for aperitivo – turns out it’s just a five-minute stroll down to Via Sottoriva, where you can grab a spritz and watch the river flow. Oh, and parking – well, it’s Verona, so street spots are tricky, especially in summer when everyone’s flocking to the Arena for opera season, but they have a few reserved spots if you book ahead. The lobby smells faintly of fresh coffee and that crisp, herbal scent from the potted plants – nothing fancy, but it sets a cozy vibe right away.

What really sold me on the place was the rooms – they’re called Design Rooms for a reason, with these sleek, modern touches like geometric wallpapers and those funky pendant lights that make you feel like you’re in a boutique spot without the hefty price tag. My room overlooked a tiny courtyard, and honestly, it was dead quiet at night, even though you’re only a 15-minute walk from Piazza delle Erbe and all its buzzing cafes. I mean, Verona can get noisy in the evenings with street performers and tour groups, but here it’s sort of insulated – perfect if you’re crashing after a day exploring Juliet’s balcony or hiking up to Castel San Pietro for those killer views. The bed was super comfy, with crisp linens that actually felt luxurious for a 3-star, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you linger a bit too long (though the space is on the compact side, so pack light if you’re sharing). Breakfast isn’t included, but they point you to a nearby bakery on Via IV Novembre for cornetti that are flaky and warm – way better than hotel buffet stuff. And get this, it’s pet-friendly; I saw a couple with their little dog, which added to that homey feel. During my stay in early fall, the area was peaceful, but I bet it picks up in July when the festivals hit.

All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s authentically Verona without the over-the-top tourist trap vibes, Design Rooms is a solid pick – that 8.2 rating feels spot-on, you know? It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the mornings when everyone’s online, and there’s no elevator for upper floors if you’ve got heavy bags. But for the price, especially compared to those chain hotels near the station, it’s a steal. I’d go back in a heartbeat – maybe next time to catch an Arena show and wander back through the dimly lit bridges at night. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple and want to feel like you’re living like a local, book it; just remember to ask for a room facing the courtyard to avoid any street noise from early delivery trucks.

Reviews

  • Great location and comfortable room, although the staff didn’t make any contact to assist – Gianmarco from United Kingdom – 21 May 2024 (8/10)

Great location and spacious room with very nice decors

What could be improved: The tv didn’t work and the staff did not respond to my ask for help.

  • Superb – Nadine from Austria – 16 June 2023 (9/10)

    -Easy check-in/check-out
    -location
    -very clean

What could be improved: -Not recommended to people who spend a lot of time in the appartement, because it is quite dark/narrow

  • Cute Design-Room close to Ponte Pietra – Irena from Germany – 16 October 2022 (8/10)

The design was nice, there was a beautiful picture of Verona in the room and it was clean. The shower was big. Also nice was, that you had an option to make urself tea.

What could be improved: The window and balkony door were directly next to the street-so you could hear, if a car or motorcycle drive by (Design Room 2). Thankfully it is a really calm street. There was no plug for the hairdryer, that you could use it next to the mirror, so would be nice to provide either the plug or an hairdryer that fits. I would have been extra happy if there would have been a full-size mirror and an iron included.

  • Superb – Matea from North Macedonia – 12 October 2022 (9/10)

Perfect location and great value for money.

What could be improved: The apartment in general was clean but the only blanket that was left was incredibly dirty.

  • Lovely little apartment – Abigail from United Kingdom – 21 August 2022 (8/10)

    Modern design, AC was good

  • Superb – Mihaela from United Arab Emirates – 24 July 2022 (9/10)

Beautifully designed room, perfect location. The host went out of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable – thank you for that

  • Cosy and quiet room – Nicusor from Romania – 27 June 2024 (8/10)

    – Great location: 5 minutes away from the old town
    – It was very quiet (except the last 2 days when a neighbour started renovations upstairs)
    – Nice design: modern, the space is used at maximum so you can enjoy a bedroom, a kitchen and a dining space in a single room.
    – good communication

What could be improved: – it was very humid; also some mold was growing on the window wall
    – when we arrived there were no toiletries nor toilet paper (the host offered to bring them the next day but we have already bought what was missing)

  • Bad service – Janis from Latvia – 4 September 2022 (8/10)

Nice location and nice design but bas service!!!

What could be improved: First of all there where no replay to my messages and thats really not nice!!!
The kitched had microwave and kettle, 2 cups and spoons, 1 small plate and mini fridge. There were no glasses, plates, knives and cutlery to fully use the kitchen!!!
And no Wifi, mobile internet was really bad in that place!!!

  • Good – Ngot from Netherlands – 10 July 2024 (7/10)

    Good location

What could be improved: The room is much smaller than in the pictures. You literally sleep next to the toiler, which is inconvenient. And you have no place to sit within the room.

  • Very nice room just a little sad about the ants. – Robyn from Netherlands – 12 July 2023 (8/10)

Very nice. Good location. New bathroom. Good airconditioning. Comfortabel bed.

What could be improved: We were there three days and the final day, many ants appeared which caused a bit of a problem. If we stayed another day the ants would have been everywhere all over our suitcases and clothing.
