Dimora 4 Spade Overview
I remember stumbling upon Dimora 4 Spade last summer during Verona’s opera season – you know, when the Arena turns into this massive open-air theater and the whole city buzzes with tourists and locals alike. It’s tucked right on Via 4 Spade, this narrow little street off the main drag of Via Mazzini, where all the high-end shops are. Honestly, finding parking was a nightmare – the historical center is mostly pedestrian-only, so I ended up ditching the car at a lot near the river and walking the last bit with my bags clacking over the cobblestones. But once I pushed open that unassuming door, it felt like stepping into a hidden gem. The check-in was super low-key; the owner, this friendly guy named Marco (I think?), chatted with me about the best gelato spots while handing over the keys – no big lobby fuss, just a cozy reception that smells faintly of fresh espresso from the machine they keep going all day.
What really won me over was how they’ve blended the old Verona vibe with stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable. The building’s from the 18th century or something – exposed brick walls, wooden beams that creak just a tad when you walk – but the rooms are kitted out with these plush beds and rainfall showers that make you forget you’re in a historic spot. Mine overlooked a quiet courtyard, so even though you’re smack in the middle of things, the noise from Piazza delle Erbe (just a two-minute stroll away) didn’t keep me up – well, except for that one night with the street musicians playing until midnight, but that’s Verona for you. I mean, it’s not huge; the rooms are on the snug side, which might feel tight if you’re traveling with a ton of luggage, but the little touches like complimentary prosecco on arrival and those super-soft Egyptian cotton sheets make it feel luxurious. Breakfast is served in this sunny nook – fresh pastries, local cheeses, and yogurt that’s probably from some farm up in the hills – nothing over-the-top, but way better than the generic hotel buffets you get elsewhere. Oh, and if you’re into history, it’s literally steps from Juliet’s House; I popped over early one morning before the crowds hit, and it was magical, all quiet and dewy.
Look, if you’re planning a trip to Verona – especially in the shoulder seasons like spring when the wisteria blooms everywhere and it’s not sweltering – Dimora 4 Spade is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got the inside scoop. It’s not the cheapest (rates can creep up during festivals), and yeah, there’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing. But for that 9.3 rating? Totally earned. You’ll leave with stories, like wandering to the Ponte Pietra at dusk or grabbing aperitivo at a tiny bar on Via Stella. I went back this year just for a quick weekend, and it felt like coming home – that’s saying something in a city as romantic as this.

Beautifully renovated and styled apartment in the centre of old Verona. Well sound-proofed so you don't notice any of the pedestrian traffic or nightlife. It's about a half hour walk from the train station with luggage, or there are buses that leave from the station with a stop nearby. A great option for those that want to stay in the historical centre.

Wonderfully position within the old town. Beautiful spacious apartment and very clean. In the old area with many local walks and attractions. Easy access and great communication from the owner.
What could be improved: The bar on the corner can be noisy at night. Happy people.
