Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (I think?), greeted me with a genuine smile and a shot of espresso, chatting about how the building dates back to the 18th century. Parking’s a bit of a hassle in this pedestrian zone, though – I ended up leaving my rental at the underground lot near Castelvecchio, about a 10-minute walk away, which wasn’t ideal with luggage but hey, it forced me to explore on foot.

What really won me over were the rooms – mine was on the second floor, with these exposed wooden beams and terracotta floors that creak just enough to feel authentic, not annoying. It overlooked a tiny courtyard where vines climb the walls, and in the mornings, the smell of baking bread from the bakery down the street wafted in through the open window. I mean, it’s a 4-star spot with a stellar 9.7 rating for a reason – the bed was plush, the bathroom had those rainfall showers that make you linger, and they even stock local amenities like olive oil soaps from Lake Garda farms. Breakfast was included, nothing extravagant but solid: fresh croissants, cappuccinos made to order, and seasonal fruits – perfect fuel before wandering to Juliet’s House or catching an opera at the Arena (pro tip: book tickets early if you’re there in summer; it gets packed). One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi dipped a tad in the evenings when everyone logs on, but who needs it when you’re in Verona? I spent my afternoons sipping Aperol at that hidden osteria on Via Mazzini, just a five-minute stroll away, feeling like I’d unlocked some local secret.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Verona’s romantic vibe without the chain-hotel sterility – well, this is your spot. It’s not perfect for families with strollers (those historic stairs can be steep), but for couples or solo travelers chasing that old-world magic, it’s gold. I left feeling like I’d actually lived there for a bit, not just passed through, and I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially off-season when the rates dip and the city’s yours to savor.
