Domus Largo Pescheria Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Domus Largo Pescheria? The name literally tells you everything you need to know, but I didn’t get it until I was standing there. “Largo Pescheria” means you’re right at the old fish market square – and honestly, that’s exactly where you want to be in Catania. I mean, sure, it sounds like it might smell fishy, but the historic fish market moved on ages ago, leaving behind this incredible cobblestone square that’s basically the heartbeat of the old town.
The building itself has that authentic Sicilian character that you can’t fake – thick volcanic stone walls that keep things surprisingly cool even when it’s blazing outside, and these wonderful high ceilings that make the rooms feel spacious without being cavernous. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with the historic bones of the place. The bathrooms are properly updated (thank goodness), but they’ve kept details like the original floor tiles and those gorgeous shuttered windows that actually block out the light when you need to sleep in. Speaking of sleep – it can get lively in the square during evening passeggiata hours, but by midnight things quiet down nicely. The 4-star rating feels spot-on; it’s polished without being stuffy, comfortable without trying too hard to be boutique-fancy.
But here’s the real reason I’d stay here again – the location is absolutely unbeatable for exploring on foot. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the duomo with its famous elephant fountain, and Via Etnea (the main shopping street) is right there when you need your morning coffee fix. The narrow streets around Largo Pescheria are where locals still do their daily shopping, so you get this authentic slice of Catanese life happening right outside your door. Plus, and this is key for anyone planning day trips, you’re close enough to walk to the train station when you want to head up Mount Etna or over to Taormina. That 9.1 rating doesn’t surprise me at all – the staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure guests understood the neighborhood, and they had solid recommendations that went beyond the obvious tourist spots. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just convenient.

Great location, right in the centre of the historical area. The flat was gorgeous and nicely laid out. It also had a lovely small balcony overlooking a very nice street. Matteo was very attentive and communicative. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend this flat.
What could be improved: Very small things. A kettle, microwave and drying rack for clothes would have been useful. However we managed fine without.Georgios from Greece – 31 December 2023 (10/10)
