Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Domus Nova Palace almost by accident last summer – well, not really by accident, since I’d booked it online, but you know what I mean, that first moment when you round the corner from Via della Costa and there it is, tucked right into Piazza dei Signori like it’s been part of Verona’s heartbeat forever. The square’s this lively little hub, with those medieval arches and the statue of Dante staring down at everyone, and the hotel’s facade blends in so seamlessly with the old stone buildings that I had to double-check the address on my phone. Honestly, arriving in the late afternoon during opera season was perfect timing; the piazza buzzes with people grabbing gelato or aperitivi at the cafes nearby, but it’s not overwhelming – more like a gentle hum that makes you feel alive without the chaos of bigger tourist traps. Check-in was a breeze, too; the staff (mostly locals, from what I could tell) were chatty but efficient, handing over a key card with a quick tip about the best nearby osteria for cacio e pepe – turns out it’s just a five-minute stroll down Via Cappello toward Juliet’s balcony, which is fun to visit if you’re into that Romeo and Juliet vibe, though it’s packed in July.
What really sold me on the place – and it’s a solid 4-star spot with that 8.8 rating for a reason – is how it nails that “Italian homing” feel without trying too hard. The rooms aren’t massive, I mean, mine was on the snug side with these exposed wooden beams that gave it a cozy, almost attic-like charm, but the bed was ridiculously comfortable, all crisp linens and pillows that actually support your neck (a rarity in older buildings like this). You wake up to the faint scent of espresso drifting up from the breakfast room downstairs – they do a proper Italian spread with fresh pastries, local cheeses, and those tiny cups of coffee that hit just right. Oh, and the views: if you snag a room facing the piazza, you’ll hear the occasional church bell from Santa Maria Antica chiming in the morning, which is magical, though it might jolt you awake if you’re a light sleeper. Parking’s a bit of a hassle in the historical center – we ended up using a garage off Corso Porta Borsari, about a 10-minute walk away, so pack light if you’re driving. But once you’re settled, it’s like your own little palazzo; the common areas have these plush armchairs where I spent an evening reading, and the Wi-Fi’s surprisingly zippy for streaming that opera performance we missed at the Arena.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona for a romantic escape or just to soak in the history – especially around August when the streets fill with festival-goers – Domus Nova Palace is the kind of spot that makes you linger. It’s not flawless; the bathroom in my room was compact, with a shower that could use a bit more pressure, but that’s minor compared to how it grounds you in the real Verona, steps from hidden gems like the Torre dei Lamberti for panoramic views or quiet walks along the Adige River at dusk. I’d go back in a heartbeat – actually, I already recommended it to friends planning their anniversary trip. Just book early; it fills up fast during high season.

The property was beautiful & in such an amazing central location! I only wish I stayed longer here to experience Verona at a slower pace & soak in the Italian culture more. The restaurants below the accommodation are great! & the best gelato is also just downstairs. The shared dining area is gorgeous & everything you need is provided. The room was huge, beautiful view, comfy bedding, very clean & gorgeous Italian decor. I had such a lovely time here, thank you! 😊😊

Wonderful atmospheric Venetian decor and location is brilliant. Beds very comfortable and loved the balcony ( on our apartment). Bathroom also was perfect.
What could be improved: Very disappointed that no facility for even a cup of tea. Despite all of the other wonderful features we wouldn’t stay there again without any simple option for any hot drinks.Schultz from Canada – 18 October 2024 (9/10)
