It’s on the third floor, so you get these charming views of tiled rooftops and the occasional pigeon fluttering by, but yeah, pack light if stairs aren’t your thing.

What really won me over was how the place blends that old-Verona vibe with just enough modern touches to make you feel at home. The Amavi Suite I stayed in had these exposed wooden beams overhead – sort of rustic, you know? – and a little kitchenette where I whipped up breakfast with market finds from Via Mazzini (pro tip: grab some fresh prosciutto and pecorino there early, before the lines form). The bed was plush, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger a bit too long. It’s rated 8.5 for a reason – clean, quiet at night despite being central (though you might hear faint church bells from San Zeno in the mornings, which I actually loved). I wandered out to the Arena di Verona for an opera one evening; it’s so close, maybe a 10-minute walk past those ancient walls on Via Cappello.
