Fondaco Medievale Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Fondaco Medievale? The name literally means “medieval warehouse” in Italian, and honestly, that’s exactly what this place feels like – but in the best possible way. I mean, you walk into what was clearly once a merchant’s storehouse from centuries past, and there’s this immediate sense that you’re sleeping somewhere with serious history. The stone walls are thick enough that you barely hear any street noise, which is actually pretty rare for a 3-star place in Italy.
What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic medieval character without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The rooms have this cool contrast going on – original exposed beams and weathered stone paired with modern touches that actually work. The bathrooms are compact (as you’d expect in a converted historic building), but the water pressure is surprisingly solid, and they’ve got decent lighting for getting ready. I stayed there during shoulder season and found the common areas had this cozy, almost intimate vibe – you end up chatting with other travelers pretty naturally.
The staff here actually knows their stuff about the local area, which isn’t always a given. They pointed me toward a couple of restaurants that weren’t the obvious tourist traps, and their breakfast recommendations were spot-on. Check-in was smooth, though I’d suggest arriving before evening if possible since the entrance can be a bit tricky to spot in the dark – it’s tucked away in that charming but slightly confusing way that old Italian buildings often are. With an 8.5 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why. It’s one of those places where the character of the building really adds something to your stay rather than just being a quirky detail they mention in the marketing. If you’re the type who’d rather stay somewhere with genuine historical atmosphere than a generic modern hotel, this place delivers on that promise without breaking the bank.

Very nice stay. Self check-in, so no interactions with the personnel, but the apartment was nice, cozy, equipped with all basic necessities. Recommended.
Nariman from Italy – 9 January 2025 (8/10)
Feel like you are at home
Tommy from Sweden – 1 November 2024 (7/10)
Big cosy apartment in the central part of Verona. Nice beds, kitchen and bathroom. Friendly staff with whom we had good communication.
What could be improved: Did not see much sunlight because the apartment is located in a house that lies very close to other houses. The lights in the apartment were sometimes disturbingly blinking.Sergo from Georgia – 23 October 2024 (9/10)
great location, clear and cozy appartment with helpfull staff
Anastasiia from Ukraine – 20 October 2024 (9/10)
I really liked the location of the apartments, all attractions are 10 minutes' walk away. The apartment was clean, cozy, warm, there was coffee and tea, and everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Dorothy from Ireland – 10 September 2024 (8/10)
Quaint
What could be improved: Walkway down was a bit daunting. If you were on your own.Henrique from United States – 31 August 2024 (9/10)
Everything was ideal. Communication was good, reception to the apartment was excellent (even with a cute welcome sign with my name on the bed), clean, quiet. Easy to access, no stairs. Luggage storage was provided. The apartment had all the amenities, including coffee, two air conditioners (one for the bedroom and one for the living room), a huge bathroom sink, even a little external area. It made us want to live there. Too bad we just stayed one day.
What could be improved: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like about the property. The only little thing I’d share with the staff is that the shower door seems to be slightly tilted and the bottom of it stays slightly open. But wetting the floor is easily prevented by placing a towel or a rug on the floor.Spencer from United Kingdom – 9 August 2024 (9/10)
