Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon this freshly renovated gem in Verona’s Borgo Trento neighborhood last summer, right after they’d finished sprucing the place up, and honestly, it felt like I’d timed my trip perfectly. The hotel’s tucked away at 9a Via Tonale, which is this quiet side street off the main drag – think leafy residential vibes with those classic Italian apartment buildings lining the way, not the chaotic tourist crush you get closer to the historic center. I mean, it’s only about a 10-minute walk to the Arena di Verona (yeah, that ancient amphitheater where they do those epic opera nights in July and August), but you’re far enough from the crowds that you can actually hear birds chirping in the morning instead of tour buses rumbling by. Parking was a breeze too – they have a small lot out back, which is gold in a city like Verona where street spots vanish faster than gelato on a hot day. Check-in was smooth; the staff (mostly locals, from what I could tell) chatted me up about the best routes to Ponte Pietra, that old stone bridge over the Adige River just a five-minute stroll away – super helpful if you’re into those sunset views without the hassle.

What really sold me, though, was how the renovation brought out this fresh, modern edge without losing that cozy Italian charm – you walk in and there’s this subtle scent of new wood and crisp linens, like the place just got a deep clean. My room was on the second floor, overlooking a little courtyard (pro tip: ask for one facing away from the street if you’re a light sleeper, as Via Tonale can get a bit of morning traffic from folks heading to the hospital nearby – it’s Borgo Trento, after all, sort of the medical hub). The bed was plush, with those high-thread-count sheets that make you want to hit snooze, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works – none of that dribbly nonsense you sometimes get in older spots. Breakfast was a highlight too; they set it up in this sunny atrium with fresh pastries from a bakery down on Via IV Novembre (grab an extra cornetto if you’re walking to the center), plus decent coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Blazing fast, which mattered when I was uploading photos of Juliet’s House – it’s about 15 minutes on foot, crossing the river, and way less crowded if you go early.

All in all, if you’re visiting Verona and want a 4-star stay that feels authentic without the sticker shock – we’re talking a 9.6 rating for a reason – this place is a winner, especially in the shoulder seasons like spring when the city’s blooming but not overrun. It’s not perfect; the elevator’s a tad slow if you’re lugging bags, and there’s no full restaurant on-site (though plenty of trattorias nearby, like that hidden one on Via San Nazaro with killer risotto). But well, that’s part of the charm – it pushes you out to explore. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe catch an opera at the Arena and wander back for a quiet nightcap on their terrace. Trust me, it’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like a savvy traveler, not just another tourist.

  • Lilit from Poland – 17 February 2025 (10/10)

Clean and light apartment equipped with everything for the stat. The host is fast responder and helpy. It needs 10mins by walk to the city center. The location is good if u have a car and need to park in the city. There were plenty of places to park near. I am sure we couldn’t park in the city centre.

  • Dragosmtanase from Romania – 29 October 2024 (9/10)

Nice position in the city, close to old town. Close to pubs! Very clean and comfortable.

  • Frank from United Kingdom – 30 September 2024 (8/10)

Clean, modern and great location for the old town, but in residential area with local feel. Nice small bars, shops and restaurants. Easy reach by bus to station or taxi to airport.

What could be improved: No area for sitting for 4 adults as kitchen and balcony bit too narrow. Only one key provided. We never met or spoke directly to, host, so missed a personal touch. Bar was a bit noisy late at night, even during working week, so needed to close window.

  • Dennis from Singapore – 15 September 2024 (9/10)

Conveniently located, newly renovated and clean

What could be improved: Gets a little noisy at night on the streets. Blankets too thin.

  • Jenny from Germany – 19 August 2024 (10/10)

Great location (10min walk to Arena and old city, restaurants on doorstep), just renovated, host is amazing

  • David from United Kingdom – 18 July 2024 (10/10)

Perfect apartment with everything we could need and only 10 minutes walk from the main tourist sites
Alex, the owner, was outstanding with any queries or questions we had, he responded very quickly

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Sonya from France – 14 July 2024 (9/10)

The location is not in the center of town, but you're in a quiet, residential neighborhood. We loved it. It's just a short walk across the bridge to get to where you'll want to go. And Alex, the host, is fantastic. His sweet mama cleans the apartment (and it is CLEAN!), and she helped us drop off our bags and get the keys. It's a tiny apartment but is more than adequate for a short stay in Verona. We had everything we needed!

    What could be improved: N/A
