Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Giardino di Romeo after a bit of a winding drive through Verona’s old town – you know, those narrow cobblestone streets that make you feel like you’re in a movie, but also make parking a total nightmare. Honestly, if you’re driving, just plan to stash your car at one of the public lots down by the Adige River and hike up the Scalinata Castel San Pietro steps; it’s only about 100 meters from the Teatro Romano, but those stairs – whew, they’ll get your heart pumping, especially with luggage in tow. I arrived in late spring, right when the wisteria was blooming everywhere, and the air had this sweet, floral scent mixed with the faint earthy smell from the river below. The hotel itself is tucked into this hillside spot, sort of hidden behind a garden gate that feels more like a secret entrance to some romantic hideaway than a standard check-in. The staff – a mix of locals who clearly love Verona – greeted me with that effortless Italian warmth, offering a quick espresso while they sorted my room key. No fuss, no long lines; it was refreshingly straightforward, even though I showed up a tad early after wandering from Ponte Pietra.

What really won me over, though, was how the place blends that old-world charm with just enough modern comfort to make you forget you’re in a historic building. My room overlooked the garden – yeah, the “Giardino” in the name isn’t just for show; it’s this lush little oasis with lemon trees and climbing vines that rustle softly in the breeze, drowning out any city hum from below. The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that feel like a hug after a day of exploring, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works well (not always a given in older spots like this). I mean, it’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty if you’re up on the higher floors, and during peak tourist season in summer, you might hear faint echoes from the crowds at the Arena di Verona drifting up at night – but overall, it’s quiet, especially in the evenings when the historical center winds down. Breakfast was a highlight: fresh pastries, local cheeses, and cappuccinos served on the terrace with views stretching over the red-tiled rooftops toward Juliet’s house, which is just a 15-minute stroll away via Via Sottoriva. Well, sort of – take the scenic route along the river to avoid the tourist traps.

If you’re the type who wants to immerse yourself in Verona without the hassle of chain hotels, this is your spot. It’s got that authentic vibe, like staying at a friend’s elegant townhouse, and at 4 stars with a 9.2 rating, it punches above its weight – especially for couples or history buffs. I left feeling recharged, already plotting my next trip back in autumn when the leaves turn and the place gets even cozier. You won’t regret it, trust me.

Reviews

  • Beautiful apartment well located in Verona. – Joe from United Kingdom – 10 July 2025 (10/10)

The property was very well located and easy to find. It was very clean and spacious and comfortable with good air conditioning. If we were returning to Verona again we would try and return here as it was a very nice apartment.

What could be improved: We would have preferred a conventional oven rather than a microwave but it wasn’t a major issue.

  • Magic – Christopher from Canada – 24 February 2025 (10/10)

First and foremost the host Giovanni was always available and very responsive. The location was excellent. Directly across the street from the main bridge. The property was freshly restored but still has its historic vibe bring the best of two world together. The courtyard was a bonus to relax and have private outdoor space when taking a break from the busy city. It so close but just outside so not too loud. I will plan my next Verona visit around this property’s availability.

    Thanks again Giovanni

  • We loved our stay here and thought it was perfect! – Claire from United Kingdom – 11 October 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was just like the pictures and description, beautiful, comfortable, spacious, clean and with a lovely garden which added to the peaceful experience. It was in an ideal location for exploring Verona, just a few steps away from the views, history and romance of Ponte Pietra and the walk up to Castel San Pietro and more views. Our host Giovanni was extremely kind and welcoming, and made our stay even more relaxing by being so helpful, such as with arrangements and directions for our travel to and from the airport.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • We had a great stay at this place with a perfect location for staying in Verona. – Sophia from Switzerland – 8 May 2025 (9/10)

The location, the size and the garden were the highlight about this place. It has everything you need and the surroundings are pretty quiet. Furthermore the communication with Giovanni was easy and he was available during our whole stay.

  • Worst stay ever – Zamaan from United Kingdom – 29 September 2024 (1/10)

I liked nothing about this property it smelt of damp in the bedroom it’s really bad to inhale damp. Also mice running around

What could be improved: it smelt of damp in the bedroom it’s really bad to inhale damp. Also mice running around so we had to move the bed upstairs due to this damp
Smell downstairs. I messaged the owner and expressed my concern with the damp smell and the mice. There response was to accuse me of burning a cigarette burn somewhere. But me and the 3 people that stayed don’t smoke cigarettes. Then the owner of the property accused me of having more then 3 people stay which was true and is asking me to pay them 150 euros. Trying to take money from me from taking lies

  • Super Apartment mit hervorragendem Service vom Gastgeber – Hendrik from Germany – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
