Hotel Indigo Verona – Grand Hotel Des Arts by IHG Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hotel Indigo Verona – Grand Hotel Des Arts by IHG, I wasn’t expecting much from another chain hotel. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked right in the heart of Verona, and I mean really in the thick of things – you can practically hear the opera rehearsals drifting over from the Arena when the wind’s right.
The lobby hits you with this gorgeous mix of contemporary art and classical Italian touches that doesn’t feel forced or theme-park-ish. I mean, some hotels try way too hard with the local culture thing, but they’ve got original artwork from Veronese artists scattered throughout that genuinely tells the story of the city. My room (I stayed on the fourth floor) had these massive windows that looked out over the maze of terracotta rooftops, and honestly, I spent way too much time just watching the locals go about their daily routines in the piazzas below. The beds are properly comfortable – none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense – and the bathrooms have rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure, which is rarer than you’d think in historic Italian buildings.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their city. The concierge (Maria, I think her name was) didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – she marked up specific gelaterias that locals actually frequent and told me which bridges to cross for the best sunset photos over the Adige River. The breakfast spread was solid too, with proper Italian coffee that didn’t taste like it came from a machine, plus they had this selection of local cheeses and cured meats from vendors I later spotted at the Saturday market near Piazza delle Erbe. Parking can be a bit of a headache in this part of town – the hotel doesn’t have its own lot, but they’ve got an arrangement with a garage about a five-minute walk away that costs around 20 euros a night. Not cheap, but honestly, having a car in central Verona is more trouble than it’s worth anyway since everything worth seeing is walkable. The 8.8 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it gets the important stuff right and has that authentic neighborhood feel that makes you want to linger an extra day or two.

a pleasant hotel – exceeded our expectations. Friendly staff, small but clean rooms. we enjoyed the pleasant hotel, very well positioned – close to the train station and 10 minutes from the center.
It's not exactly up to the highest standards, but I think it's one of the first hotels where we can say that the pictures look worse than they are in reality…

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a great map with tips for a city with so much to do and see. The room is beautifully decorated.
What could be improved: My room was very small. I could not open a large suitcase unless I put it on top of the bed. Windows were internal looking at pipes and walls.Emil from Bulgaria – 13 February 2025 (9/10)
Lady at the reception was very kind and helpful. She suggested and booked for us an amazing restaurant.
The guy at the lobby bar James was amazing. He delivered the perfect service and made us feel more than welcome.

Amazing! Lovely hotel and wonderful staff. Mara was so kind and helpful and gave us such good advice. The room (102) was spacious and well appointed and we also received a card that provided specials at restaurants and discounts at shops. Elisabetta kindly booked amazing restaurants. Breakfast is delicious and parking is very convenient

I had a really pleasant experience. The atmosphere of the hotel is quite lovely—there’s a cozy seating area with a bar in the lobby that’s perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The staff were incredibly accommodating and attentive, handling my requests quickly and with a smile. It really made me feel welcome.
It’s super close to the city center, so you can easily walk to all the main attractions. It’s also within walking distance of the train station, which is perfect if you’re planning to travel beyond Verona.
If you’re looking for a place that combines excellent service, a comfortable ambiance, and a great location, I’d definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Verona.
What could be improved: One regret I have is not having the chance to try the breakfast—there is too many pasticcerias around 🙂
