Hotel Mastino Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Mastino on Corso Porta Nuova, you immediately get that “I’m in the right place” feeling. This three-star property sits right in Verona’s historical center, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that classic Italian charm without being overly fancy — it’s the kind of place that feels authentic rather than trying too hard to impress tourists. The welcoming atmosphere sets the tone for your entire stay in this charming Italian city.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re literally in the heart of everything. Corso Porta Nuova is one of those streets where you can walk to pretty much anywhere you’d want to go in the historic center. The Arena di Verona is just a few minutes on foot, and you know what? You’ll actually enjoy that walk because the streets are lined with shops and cafes. There’s parking available if you’re driving, which is honestly a relief in a city center like this where finding a spot can be a nightmare. The central position means you can explore the medieval quarters with ease and return to your hotel whenever you need a break.
The Room Experience
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, comfortable, and functional without any unnecessary frills. I mean, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or designer furniture, but everything works well and the beds are actually comfortable (which matters more than you might think after a day of walking around cobblestone streets). Each room feels properly Italian — not too big, but thoughtfully arranged so you don’t feel cramped. The attention to detail in the furnishings reflects genuine care for guest comfort and satisfaction.
Morning Fuel
The breakfast setup is pretty standard continental and buffet style, but they do it well. You’ll find the usual suspects — pastries, coffee, some local touches that make it feel less generic than hotel breakfasts sometimes do. The coffee is proper Italian coffee, which honestly makes starting your day so much better. It’s served in a pleasant space where you can actually plan your day without feeling rushed. The morning experience here sets a positive tone for exploring the city’s attractions.
Why Guests Love It
What really stands out is how couples seem to absolutely love this place — they consistently rate the location incredibly highly for romantic trips. And I get it, because there’s something special about being able to step out your hotel door and immediately be surrounded by Verona’s medieval streets and Renaissance architecture. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the less touristy spots, which makes a difference when you want to experience the real Verona rather than just the postcard version. For the price point, you’re getting excellent value — especially considering that prime location in the historical center. This hotel truly captures the essence of what makes Verona such a beloved destination.

Location was exceptional for seeing the sights of Verona, staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast was nice and rooms were comfy and quiet although could do with a facelift, shower was also decent.
What could be improved: A bit stressful arriving by car, we had reserved a space in the underground carpark (through the hotel) but we didn't receive instructions about where we could unload the car upon arrival at the hotel so we were a bit nervous parking out on the busy street at the hotel location, fortunately my wife went into the hotel to ask the staff and a very helpful member of staff escorted us to the underground car park and explained all about it. Car park was very safe and secure.Katherine from Italy – 17 February 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: LocationNicole from United Kingdom – 13 October 2024 (8/10)
The bathroom was really big and modern, however the room was less so. Breakfast was amazing with lots of variety. In an amazing location for all the sights and close to the train station.
What could be improved: I think the walls must've been quite thin as it was quite noisy at night.Anne from United Kingdom – 10 October 2024 (9/10)
Location is excellent, very central. Also walking distance to station.
What could be improved: Rooms in the front can be noisy at night.Shirley from Australia – 20 September 2024 (8/10)
All the main attractions of Verona were within an easy walk and staff were friendly and helpful- with a hearty breakfast each morning.
What could be improved: McDonald’s was right downstairs and people sat there and talked loudly until late at night – with the noise still able to be heard through closed windows and with the air-conditioning on.
