Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to Hotel Maxim on Via Carlo Belviglieri in Borgo Venezia, I wasn’t sure what to expect – it’s tucked away in this quieter, more residential part of Verona, east of the historic center, where the streets feel like they’re for locals grabbing their morning espresso rather than tourists snapping selfies at Juliet’s balcony. Honestly, it’s not smack in the middle of the action like those spots near the Arena or Piazza delle Erbe, but that’s kind of its charm; you’re about a 20-minute walk or a quick bus ride (the number 11 stops right nearby on Via San Nazaro, super handy) from all that, without the constant buzz of crowds. I mean, arriving after a long drive from Milan, I appreciated the easy parking in their lot – no circling blocks like in the old town – and the check-in was straightforward, with this friendly older guy at the desk who chatted about the best time to visit the nearby Porta Vescovo gate (early morning, apparently, before the heat kicks in during summer).
What stuck with me most was how the place feels lived-in and practical, you know? It’s a solid 4-star setup, but with that slightly dated vibe – think comfy beds with those crisp white sheets that smell faintly of lavender detergent, and rooms that are spacious enough for spreading out your maps and souvenirs, though the decor could use a refresh (the carpets are a bit worn in spots, and the AC hummed louder than I’d like on warmer nights). Breakfast was a highlight, actually – served in this bright room overlooking the garden, with fresh croissants, local cheeses, and that strong Italian coffee that wakes you right up; I overheard a couple of business travelers raving about it while I loaded up on fruit. Oh, and if you’re into exploring on foot, there’s a little park just down the street where kids play soccer in the evenings, giving you that authentic neighborhood feel – sort of reminds you Verona isn’t all about Shakespeare. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet after dark, except maybe for the occasional scooter zipping by, but nothing that kept me up. Well, one minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the hallways, so if you’re working remotely, stick to your room.
All in all, I’d say Hotel Maxim is a smart pick if you’re after value without the fluff – that 7 rating feels about right, not luxurious but reliable for a few nights in Verona, especially in shoulder season like early fall when the city’s less packed and you can snag a deal. It’s perfect for folks like me who want to dip into the touristy bits (hop on that bus to the center for an opera at the Arena) but retreat to something more low-key, with real Verona life right outside your window. If you’re driving or just need a break from the hustle, give it a shot – you might end up loving the unpretentious side of this romantic city.

What could be improved: Good breakfast, good value for money. Just go on and book itLucy from Canada – 4 August 2024 (7/10)
The price for its location
What could be improved: The air conditioning wasn’t working properly and water was leaking on the floor. We told them several times to come and fix it and they came on the third day of the four days we were there to fix it. A little slow to responding.Banicco from United Kingdom – 4 August 2024 (8/10)
The staff are very helpful. The cleaners clean the hotel rooms every time and are very efficient and friendly too. The receptionists are very helpful especially Giulia, Marco, Crleste just to name a few. There were all brilliant. The restaurant staff for the breakfast were also very nice
What could be improved: I did not like the breakfast atall. The same thing was served throughout our 7 days in the hotel. They don't have varieties and most times the food are cold. They urgently need to work on the breakfast. Also the hotel has no indoor restaurant as one will have to source for where to get food thought there are many fruits shops and groceries shops around the hotel. Perhaps for a night or two ok not for a long vacationLuis from Portugal – 29 June 2024 (8/10)
Nice breakfast with eggs – good variety. Hotel has garage.
What could be improved: Old decoration – entrance and breakfast room are lower than street level – little natural light.Francesco from Egypt – 20 April 2024 (8/10)
