Hotel Porta Palio Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel Porta Palio on Viale Colonnello Galliano, you immediately get the sense this is a solid, no-nonsense place that knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s not trying to be flashy — honestly, that’s part of its charm. The three-star property sits in the Borgo Milano district, and while that might sound fancy, it’s actually more of a residential area that gives you a real taste of how locals live in Verona.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I really appreciate about this spot — you’re close enough to the action without being stuck in the tourist chaos of the city center. The Stadio Bentegodi is practically next door, which is perfect if you’re catching a Hellas Verona match, but even if you’re not into football, the location works well. You can walk to the historic center in about 20 minutes, or there’s decent public transport that gets you there faster. What surprised me is how much couples seem to love staying here — apparently they rate the location 8.1 out of 10, and I get why.

The Room Experience

The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star hotel — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary frills. My room had everything I needed: a decent-sized bed, a functional desk area, and a bathroom that actually had good water pressure (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in Italy). The windows open properly too, which I always appreciate — sometimes you just want fresh air instead of air conditioning.

Breakfast & Practical Matters

The breakfast setup here is actually pretty impressive for a place this size. They do a proper Italian spread alongside continental options, and it’s served buffet-style so you can take your time. I mean, starting your day with decent coffee and fresh pastries while planning your Verona adventures — that’s half the vacation right there. One thing that really sets this place apart is the private parking on-site. If you’re driving in Italy, you know what a relief it is to not worry about finding a spot or dealing with restricted zones.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Hotel Porta Palio is that it delivers exactly what it promises without any surprises. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay smooth, the 8.3 rating reflects consistent quality, and you’re getting solid value for money. It’s the kind of place where you can drop your bags, grab a quick shower, and head out to explore Verona knowing you’ve got a comfortable base to return to. Plus, being slightly outside the main tourist zone means you’ll sleep better at night — no groups of travelers wandering the streets until 2 AM.

  • Damjan from North Macedonia – 21 March 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: The wifi wasn't the best. It crashed often.

  • Madalena from Portugal – 6 March 2025 (7/10)

comfortable and clean, breakfast was nice and the staff was friendly

What could be improved: a little far from the city centre but not bad

  • Laura from Slovenia – 7 January 2025 (8/10)

It is a great deal for the price! Room is clean and comfy, breakfast is good and location is about good 20min walking from old town. Overall the experience was great!

What could be improved: I miss some extra facilities like gym.

  • Michejeva from United Kingdom – 3 December 2024 (9/10)

Friendly staff, nicely clean and cosy room, delicious breakfast! We booked this hotel in the last minute as other hotel let us down cancel our stay at the last minute. But in the end we realised that it was for luck cos Porta Palio is much better and wirh a better location. The city centre is in the walking distance. Highly recommend

  • Tracy from United Kingdom – 15 November 2024 (9/10)

Clean comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Very good selection of food for breakfast.

What could be improved: Nothing about the property, I just thought it was closer to the train station than it actually is.

  • Marijana from Serbia – 10 November 2024 (9/10)

Breakfast is excellent, room is very clean, bathroom is well equipped, location is near centre, staff is very friendly.

What could be improved: Hotel cleaner was vaccuming room next door to us after 10 p.m.,we we're tired that day and it wasn't pleasing.

  • Ana from Slovenia – 8 November 2024 (9/10)

Excellent breakfast, good location – not in old city center, but a short walk away, also close to a part with nice bars and restaurants.

What could be improved: Parking in parking garage can be tricky with bigger car, but has enough spaces.

  • Sarah from Australia – 10 October 2024 (9/10)

Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room and good breakfast.

What could be improved: Nothing to add

  • Dan from Canada – 7 October 2024 (8/10)

Great breakfast buffet, excellent kitchen staff, great room, comfy king-size bed. Easy check-in & check-out

What could be improved: Big sign in hallway which said, "be quiet, someone is sleeping".. great, but we got woke up an hour early by very noisy cleaning staff.. sounded as though they were in each of the surrounding rooms. Vacuuming, talking, moving furniture, smell of ammonia.. for over 2 hours, the hallway was a maze of cords, cleaning trawlies, buckets, supplies.. Difficult to walk and unable to roll our luggage out..
Area around hotel a bit unsavory..

  • Minea from Slovenia – 2 May 2024 (9/10)

Clean room, very good breakfast, near to centre, near to rent bikes (with bikes can go to train station and leave bikes there), friendly stuff 🙂
