Il balconcino Overview
You know what struck me most about Il balconcino? It’s one of those places where the name actually tells you everything you need to know – and I mean that in the best possible way. The little balcony. Simple, unpretentious, but honestly perfect for what it delivers.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t some massive resort with a dozen restaurants and a spa that’ll drain your wallet. What it is, though, is exactly the kind of 4-star gem that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of warmth that you just can’t fake. Maybe it’s the way the light hits the entrance in the afternoons, or how the staff actually remembers your name after the first day (and I’m terrible with names myself, so I notice when others aren’t). The whole place has this lived-in elegance – you know, the kind where everything’s clearly well-maintained and thoughtfully designed, but it doesn’t feel like a museum you’re afraid to touch.
And that 9.5 rating? Yeah, I get it now. It’s in those details that most places overlook. The coffee at breakfast is actually good coffee, not hotel coffee – there’s a difference, trust me. The rooms have proper blackout curtains (fellow light sleepers will appreciate this), and the beds are that perfect firmness where you don’t wake up feeling like you’ve been sleeping on concrete or marshmallows. What really got me, though, were those balconies – most rooms have them, and they’re not just token outdoor spaces with a plastic chair. They’re actual little retreats where you can sit with a glass of wine in the evening and just… breathe. I spent way more time on mine than I expected, honestly. The housekeeping team somehow manages to be thorough without being intrusive, and check-in was refreshingly smooth – none of that awkward hovering while they figure out their computer system.
The location works really well too, though you’ll want to ask about parking when you book if you’re driving. It’s not impossible to find a spot, but like most great places, it’s not right on a main drag with tons of obvious parking. That’s actually part of its charm – you’re away from the constant traffic noise, but still close enough to wander out for dinner or morning coffee without needing a taxi. I found myself walking more than usual, which was nice. The neighborhood has this authentic feel where locals are actually going about their daily lives, not just tourists taking photos of each other. If you’re the type who likes discovering little family-run restaurants or stumbling across a market, you’ll be in good company here. Just remember to book ahead if you’re traveling during peak season – places like this don’t stay secret forever.

It was a great size in a really convenient location near Castelvecchio and 10mins walk from Piazza Bra. The decoration was lovely and it was well kitted out.

Lovely, comfortable space which has everything you need for a stay in Verona. The bed was very comfortable and small kitchen had a great coffee machine. The host greeted us on arrival and left lots of brilliant recommendations of places to eat and drink. Very close to city centre, but still very quiet and a lovely base in a very walkable city.
