Il Gladio Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Il Gladio on Via del Bersagliere, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — you know, the kind of place locals probably keep to themselves. This three-star hotel sits in San Zeno, which honestly might be the best-kept secret in Verona. The building has that understated Italian charm where everything looks effortlessly put together, and you can tell right away that someone actually cares about the details here.

The San Zeno Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in what’s genuinely considered the top-rated area in Verona, but it doesn’t feel touristy or overrun. San Zeno has this authentic neighborhood vibe where you’ll see actual Veronese people going about their daily lives. The famous Basilica of San Zeno is practically around the corner, and honestly, early morning walks there before the crowds arrive are pretty magical. You’re close enough to the historic center that everything’s walkable, but far enough away that you can actually breathe and think.

What Makes It Special

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d want from a well-run Italian hotel — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary fuss. What struck me most was how quiet everything was, despite being in the city. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing; they’re helpful without being hovering, and they seem to genuinely enjoy sharing recommendations about the area. I mean, when the front desk person gets excited telling you about their favorite local osteria, you know you’re in good hands.

The Neighborhood Experience

Walking around San Zeno in the evenings became one of my favorite parts of staying here. There’s this lovely mix of residential streets and small local businesses that you just don’t find in the more central tourist areas. You’ll discover family-run trattorias where the menu changes based on what’s fresh, and little wine bars where conversations happen naturally. The whole area feels lived-in and real — which is actually pretty rare when you’re staying somewhere with a location score this high. The neighborhood truly captures the essence of authentic Italian living.

Why Guests Love It

It’s easy to see why couples rate this place so highly for romantic trips. There’s something about the combination of being in an authentic Italian neighborhood while still having easy access to all of Verona’s main attractions that just works. You get the best of both worlds — you can spend your days exploring Romeo and Juliet’s balcony and the Arena, then come back to a peaceful area where you can grab a bottle of local wine and actually enjoy each other’s company. The location really does make all the difference, and Il Gladio sits right in that sweet spot where everything feels effortless and memorable.

La luz, la ubicación, la casa, las comodities.

What could be improved: Se rompió/ acabó el agua caliente el último dia y fuimos al aeropuerto sin poder ducharnos.
