Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Italianflat – Arena di Verona Apartments during a spontaneous trip to Verona last summer, right when the opera festival was kicking off, and honestly, it felt like I’d hit the jackpot for a place that lets you live like a local without the stuffy hotel vibe. Checking in at their spot on Piazzetta Scala – this tiny, charming square tucked away from the main drag – was a breeze; the staff handed over keys with a quick chat about the best gelato spots nearby (try the one on Via Mazzini, it’s divine). Then it’s just a short wander over to the actual apartments on Via Dietro Listone, dodging the occasional scooter and inhaling that mix of espresso and ancient stone that Verona does so well. The building itself is one of those classic Veronese affairs, all weathered brick and wrought-iron balconies, but step inside and – surprise – it’s got this sleek, modern setup with full kitchens that actually work (I whipped up a decent pasta carbonara one night using stuff from the market on Piazza delle Erbe).
What really sold me, though, was how smack in the historical center it is – I mean, you’re literally steps from the Arena di Verona, so on performance nights, you can hear the faint echoes of arias drifting through the open windows, which is magical if you’re into that, or a bit noisy if you’re trying to sleep early (earplugs helped, fair warning). My apartment overlooked a quiet courtyard – well, quiet except for the church bells tolling from the Duomo every morning, which sort of became my alarm clock. The place is rated 8.7 for good reason; it’s clean, the beds are comfy with those crisp linens that feel like a hug after a day of walking cobblestones, and there’s even a little washing machine, which saved me during a rainy spell. Parking’s a nightmare in this part of town – forget driving right up; I left my car at the public lot near Porta Nuova and walked the 15 minutes, but it’s worth it for the immersion. Oh, and if you’re traveling with kids or a group, these apartments are gold – spacious enough to spread out, unlike some cramped hotels I’ve stayed in around here.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona and want that authentic feel – wandering to Juliet’s balcony for a laugh or grabbing aperitivo at a bar on Piazza Bra without hauling back to the suburbs – this is your spot. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak tourist season in July, and there’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing. But honestly, for a 4-star setup that’s more homey than hotel-y, it made my trip memorable. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the quieter shoulder months like May when the crowds thin out and you can really soak in the city’s rhythm.

Location was perfect for us, close to Piazza Bra and the Arena di Verona amphitheatre where we went to the opera on Saturday night. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and very modern and was on the third floor which was served by a lift. Coffee machine and welcome pack were much appreciated.
What could be improved: There was some confusion as to whether we should go to the Italian Flats office or direct to the apartment. We finally met with someone near the office who helped with our luggage and took us to the apartment so everything worked out well in the end.Gosia from United Kingdom – 23 March 2024 (9/10)
