Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Italianflat – House Contessa on Via Adua, right in the heart of Verona’s historical center, and thinking, wow, this is the real deal – not some glossy chain hotel, but a spot tucked into one of those old stone buildings that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Adige River, you know, where you can wander over to the Ponte Scaligero bridge for those epic sunset views that locals rave about. Honestly, arriving in the late afternoon during summer – when the streets are buzzing with tourists heading to the Arena for opera nights – the place felt like a quiet escape. The entrance is unassuming, sort of hidden behind a heavy wooden door that creaks a bit when you push it open, and check-in was straightforward but self-service style; you get a code texted to you, which is handy if you’re jet-lagged and don’t want to deal with a desk clerk. No frills there, but it worked – I mean, who needs a lobby when you’re this close to Piazza delle Erbe, where you can grab a gelato from that little shop on the corner and people-watch for hours?
What really sold me on House Contessa was how it captures that authentic Verona vibe without trying too hard. The rooms – well, apartments really, since it’s more like a flat than a standard hotel – have these high ceilings and exposed beams that smell faintly of aged wood and fresh linens, the kind that make you want to kick off your shoes and settle in with a bottle of Valpolicella from the market down on Via Mazzini. Mine overlooked a narrow alley, so mornings started with the distant hum of scooters and the aroma of espresso wafting up from the café below; it’s noisy if you’re a light sleeper, especially on weekends when folks spill out from the bars nearby, but earplugs sorted that out. The kitchenette was a lifesaver – basic, sure, with just a hot plate and mini-fridge, but perfect for whipping up a quick pasta after a day exploring Castelvecchio (which is literally a five-minute stroll away). Parking’s a nightmare in this part of town, though – historical center rules mean you’ll probably have to hunt for a spot on the outskirts or pay for a garage off Corso Porta Nuova. And yeah, it’s rated around 7.2 for a reason; the Wi-Fi can be spotty, and the bathroom was clean but nothing fancy – think functional tiles rather than spa luxury. But that’s part of the charm, you know? It’s not pretending to be five-star; it’s honest, affordable digs in a prime spot.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona for the romance – maybe catching a show at the Arena or just wandering the cobbled streets hand-in-hand – House Contessa is a solid pick, especially off-season when it’s quieter and rates dip. I stayed there last fall, and it felt like my own little pied-à-terre; you’d wake up to church bells from Santa Anastasia nearby, grab breakfast at that bakery on Via Cappello (yep, the one near Juliet’s House), and bam, you’re immersed. Sure, it could use a refresh on the furnishings – some chairs were a tad worn – but for budget travelers who want location over luxury, it’s spot-on. I’d go back in a heartbeat, actually, just to sip coffee on that tiny balcony again and soak in the city’s heartbeat.

Location, walk access to most of sightseeings and services.
What could be improved: Pictures show a better status of facilities.Spacious flat in a great location. Bathrooms need some attention as do areas of damp. These could easily be put right an – Richard from United Kingdom – 28 March 2025 (7/10)
Flat was spacious and in a fabulous location. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed.
What could be improved: Bathrooms had black mould in the showers. Main bedroom had damp patches on the wall and damp patches around the window in the hall. No mattress protectors on the beds.Location and Spacious! Top – Nata from Germany – 8 July 2025 (9/10)

Localização perfeita, alojmento ok – Thais from Portugal – 18 April 2025 (6/10)

What could be improved: As fotos não condizem com a realidade.
Bueno pero, debe mejorar – Ricardo from Chile – 9 February 2025 (5/10)
La ubicación y el apartamento, muy bueno
What could be improved: No tenía algunos elementos indispensables: Toalla de papel, servilletas, paño de cocina, lavalozas muy poco, malo el sacacorchos. – Svetlana from Russia – 1 February 2025 (10/10)
What could be improved:
