Italianflat – Piazza Renato Simoni Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Italianflat – Piazza Renato Simoni? The name actually tells you everything you need to know – this isn’t trying to be some fancy hotel, it’s literally just a really well-done apartment rental that happens to sit on one of Milan’s quieter piazzas. I mean, when I first walked up to the building, I almost second-guessed myself because it looks like any other residential spot in the neighborhood, but that’s honestly part of its charm.

The location is what really makes this place work. Piazza Renato Simoni isn’t one of those tourist-packed squares – it’s where actual Milanese people grab their morning espresso and walk their dogs. You’re close enough to the action that you can easily hop on the metro or catch a tram, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with crowds of people taking selfies outside your window at 7 AM. I stayed here during fashion week (probably not the smartest timing for my wallet), and while the city center was absolutely chaos, this little corner stayed pretty peaceful. The building itself has that solid, old-school Italian apartment feel – thick walls, high ceilings, and thankfully decent soundproofing because, let’s be honest, Milan can get noisy.

What I appreciated most was how the place doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The 3-star rating feels about right – you’re getting clean, comfortable accommodations with a kitchenette that actually works (I made pasta twice, and yes, I’m proud of myself). The 7.8 guest rating makes sense too; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward – none of that awkward key-exchange dance you sometimes get with apartment rentals. Actually, the host seemed to really know the area well and gave me some solid recommendations for groceries and a bakery that’s apparently been family-run since the 1960s. One small thing though – if you’re the type who needs hotel amenities like room service or a concierge, this obviously isn’t going to work for you. But if you want to live like a local for a few days, wake up to the sound of the neighborhood coming to life instead of tourist buses, and have the freedom to grab fresh ingredients from the market and cook dinner while planning your next day, then this setup is pretty ideal. Plus, honestly, staying in an actual neighborhood gives you those little moments – watching the old guys play cards in the piazza, figuring out the rhythm of when shops close for lunch – that you just don’t get from a traditional hotel.

  • Chmiel123 from Poland – 6 April 2025 (9/10)

Bardzo dobra lokalizacja – 10 minut do dworca Verona Puera Nova i 10 minut do historycznego centrum miasta. Do tego obok budynku przystanek autobusowy więc nawet dalej da się szybko i sprawnie dotrzeć. Mieszkanie czyste, przestronne i wyposażone we wszystko co niezbędne. Na sąsiednich ulicach sklepy, kawiarnie wypożyczalnia aut.

Our flight was delayed and I kept the host updated, they mentioned this wasn't an issue and would put them in the lock box for us. I feel this was actually easier as when I read the reviews the pick up for the keys is 20 minutes away from the apartment. I'm so glad we didn't have to do this as if we did I wouldn't have been happier.

I would look at putting the keys in the lockbox like you did with us for other guests as so much easier. Especially after flight delays, issues with busses etc too.

What could be improved: Issues with shower, I wouldn't say the building was old at all so wouldn't expect issues with hot water. Was 5 of us staying there and we could get 2 in the shower for a few minutes with hot water. I don't think their boiler can handle this amount of guests.

If your staying 2 or 3 people I would say would be fine, if there's 4 or 5 of you I wouldn't recommend staying here if your bothered by hot water for showers.

Funzionale, pulita e a pochi passi dal centro

What could be improved: Solo una cosa: i piumoni bianchi erano purtroppo macchiati in diversi punti.

  • Maria from Brazil – 16 September 2024 (1/10)

    a location!!!

What could be improved: horrible!!! There is no hot water for guests, we are left without power, and the owners are unresponsive to guests!!! Be careful when renting this apartment!!!!

  • Remy from France – 25 August 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Douche d'une des chambres bouchée sinon le reste de l'appartement absolument impeccable.

  • Renato from Brazil – 29 July 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Falta de respostas

    Spacious modern apartment!

What could be improved: Couldn't use the AC, due to a local policy.

  • Kiki from Netherlands – 8 April 2024 (9/10)

Aanrader.

  • Swee from United Kingdom – 9 September 2023 (6/10)

The bedrooms are comfortable. Air conditioner are a plus. Free WiFi is available and works. The size of the flat is good for a small group or family with children.

What could be improved: The location of the flat is not great for single female traveller. The location to collect the key to the flat was 20mins away from the flat that we were staying. We were given a wrong set of key. So, we were stuck outside the flat for more than 30mins. Our mobile was not set up to make local call. So, it took us more than 30 minutes to ask a total stranger to contact the reception on our behalf. To make things worse, the electricity shut down when we used our kettle in our first night. We ended with no electricity for more than 2 hours during our first night in the flat. We tried to ring the reception number but there was no answer. We had to bang on the door of one of the local residents to check the fuse box. It would be useful to know the flat is not designed to handle all electrical appliances at once. We were too scared to turn on the kettle again. So, we were not able to have hot water for tea or coffee. The kettle was full of lime scale. We did ask for a replacement but it didn't happen.
The little " button switch that switch the shower head in the main bathroom is falling off and broken. Overall not a nice experience.

  • Granara from Italy – 4 September 2023 (8/10)

Ottima la posizione, appartamento comodo, ben servito, tranquillo e silenzioso.

What could be improved: Mancavano cose semplici ed essenziali come una caffettiera e un bollitore pulito.
