But this place turned out to be so much more than just a convenient parking spot.

The apartment sits right near the Roman Theater ruins, and I mean really close – you can actually hear the acoustics from the ancient stones if you step onto the little balcony in the evening. It’s one of those locations where you stumble upon history just walking to grab morning coffee. The flat itself has that lived-in Sicilian charm that you can’t fake – thick walls that keep things cool during those brutal August afternoons, and floors that have clearly seen decades of families coming and going. The owner has kept it simple but comfortable, with a kitchen that actually works (I made pasta twice, and honestly, the gas burners heat up faster than my stove back home). There’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try too hard to impress – instead of fancy amenities, you get character and that rare combination of being central but not touristy-chaotic.

What really won me over was the neighborhood vibe. You’re walking distance from Via Etnea for shopping and people-watching, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds at your doorstep every morning. The local bar downstairs makes espresso that’s strong enough to wake the dead – I became a regular pretty quickly. And about that parking situation – it’s not glamorous, but it’s secure and saves you probably 20 euros a day, which in Sicily means several more arancini and maybe a decent bottle of Etna Rosso. The 8.6 rating makes perfect sense to me because this isn’t luxury travel, it’s authentic travel. You know what I mean? Sometimes you want marble bathrooms and room service, but sometimes you want to feel like you’re actually living somewhere, even if it’s just for a few days. The Roman Theater connection isn’t just marketing speak either – there are often evening performances during summer, and you can literally walk there in two minutes. I ended up catching an outdoor concert one night completely by accident, just because I heard music and followed the sound.

  El departamento es amplio y cómodo, estaba limpio, buena ubicación, cerca de todos los sitios importantes, sería excelente si pusieran en los baños jabón para las manos y en regaderas shampoo y acondicionador
  
  What could be improved: Fue muy incómodo no encontrar jabón para las manos en los baños, dan un mini kit de bienvenida, con un mini jabón que duró para unas dos usadas, pero al haber dos baños no fue suficiente, sobre todo al ser un grupo de 5, tampoco ponen shampoo, acondicionador ni crema en los baños, ni plancha, el personal es muy escueto y al preguntar por la plancha no tuve respuesta

  What could be improved: Very few instructions – there was a note saying turn off the air con but no cable means of doing so. The apartment was a bit soulless . Not comfortable for sitting but good for sleeping .
