Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Juliet’s Paradise BalconGraffiti in Love almost by accident last spring, right when Verona was shaking off the winter chill and the cherry blossoms were starting to pop along the Adige River. It’s tucked away on Via Paradiso, just a stone’s throw from the Casa di Giulietta – that famous courtyard where tourists scribble love notes on the walls and rub the statue’s breast for luck (honestly, it’s a bit cheesy, but the energy there is infectious). I mean, if you’re into Romeo and Juliet vibes, this place leans into it hard with its name and those quirky balcony setups covered in guest graffiti – sort of like an ongoing love letter to the city. Arriving by car was a hassle, though; parking in this part of Verona is a nightmare, especially with all the one-way streets around Piazza delle Erbe. I ended up circling for 20 minutes before snagging a spot on Via Cappello, but once I checked in, the staff – this friendly older guy named Marco – made up for it with a quick espresso and some insider tips on avoiding the tourist crowds at the Arena.

What really won me over was how the hotel feels like a cozy hideaway amid the bustle. It’s only a 3-star spot, but with that 8.9 rating, you can tell they’ve nailed the basics without overdoing it. My room had this little balcony overlooking a quiet alley – nothing grand, but perfect for sipping a morning cappuccino while listening to the distant chime of church bells from San Zeno. The decor’s all about that romantic graffiti theme: walls with faded murals of hearts and quotes from Shakespeare, and even the bed linens had a subtle embroidered pattern that felt soft and inviting after a day of wandering. Oh, and the breakfast spread – well, it’s not massive, but those fresh cornetti and that nutty aroma of local cheese made it memorable. Noise-wise, it can get a tad lively in the evenings during peak season (think July when the opera festival packs the streets), but the double-glazed windows kept most of it out. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi was spotty in my room – fine for emails, but don’t count on streaming Netflix without some buffering. Still, for the price, it’s a steal, especially if you’re walking everywhere – Ponte Pietra is just a 10-minute stroll away for those sunset views over the river.

All in all, if you’re visiting Verona and want something authentic without the chain-hotel sterility, this place delivers. It’s got that lived-in charm that makes you feel like you’re crashing at a friend’s stylish apartment, complete with personal touches like handwritten notes from previous guests on the balcony walls. I left my own scribble there – something about eternal love and good pasta – and honestly, it made the trip. Go in the shoulder seasons like April or October for fewer crowds and that crisp air scented with blooming wisteria; you’ll thank me later. Whether you’re a solo traveler chasing history or a couple on a romantic getaway, Juliet’s Paradise just sort of wraps you up in Verona’s magic without trying too hard.

Reviews

  • Very good – Tarmo from Estonia – 23 November 2024 (8/10)

The apartment is in Veronetta, just behind the church of Paradiso, 10 mins walk to the very center of Verona on the other side of the river. The neighbourhood is quiet, however public transportation and a number of eating-out options are very close, as are some supermarkets. So an ideal location on all counts.

The apartment is nice, lots of light and quite some space. We stayed there as a couple plus a teenage child. For 4 adults (allowed according to booking.com), it would be quite tight though, although doable.

The kitchen is very well equipped. Nice dishes and silverware. There is a stovetop and an oven and a microwave. Also a (N)espresso machine, with a few pods provided. There was some cooking oil, no salt or pepper.

The washing machine in the WC/shower room is a big plus.

The property management allowed us to check in two hours before the official check-in hour, which we appreciated very much.

What could be improved: The required online "fast check-in" process (with a lot of threatening tone in the text from the system) was a real annoyance. First it wasn't fast at all, going through the whole online process took me almost an hour. And then it didn't really function. The web dialogue told me I had successfully completed the check-in and I was emailed a copy of the contract I had approved online, but next day I started to get emails about unfinished check-in, which did not stop. I had to sort this out by the phone.

booking.com nicely gave me the key collection instructions. But from the system of the property management I received this information at 23:00 in the evening of my arrival day.

To receive the receipts for my payment after the end of my stay I had to nag again, it didn't work automatically. Please review your software, minor improvements would improve the guest experience a lot.

I was a bit disappointed to find only 1.5 rolls of toilet paper in the apartment for a 2-week stay of a family of 3 and no kitchen paper at all.
