Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to the Katrin Luxury after a long train ride into Verona’s Porta Nuova station – honestly, it’s just a quick five-minute walk from there, which was a lifesaver with my rolling suitcase bumping over those uneven cobblestones on Piazza Renato Simoni. The square itself isn’t the glitziest part of the Historical Centre – it’s more of a local hub with that gritty, everyday Verona vibe, you know, moms pushing strollers past the little tabaccheria shops and the occasional whiff of fresh espresso from the corner bar. But that’s what I liked about it; it feels real, not all polished for tourists. Check-in was a breeze – the front desk guy, Marco (I think that was his name), was chatting away in that rapid-fire Italian-English mix, handing over keys with a smile and even recommending a nearby gelateria on Via Valverde that does this killer pistachio flavor. The hotel’s got this understated elegance for a 3-star spot – think clean lines, soft beige linens that actually feel crisp against your skin after a hot day wandering, and rooms that are compact but cozy, with those tall windows letting in the afternoon light. Oh, and the air con? A godsend in July when Verona turns into a furnace – though it does hum a bit at night, nothing earplugs couldn’t fix.

What really sets Katrin apart, though, is how it positions you for the best of Verona without the chaos of staying right smack in the tourist throng around the Arena. I mean, it’s an easy 15-minute stroll down Corso Porta Nuova to reach the ancient amphitheater – I timed it one morning, dodging scooters and inhaling the scent of blooming jasmine along the way. If you’re into the Romeo and Juliet thing (who isn’t, right?), Juliet’s House is just a bit further, but honestly, skip the crowds and head to the quieter spots like the Giardino Giusti gardens nearby – they’re a hidden gem, especially in the off-season when it’s not packed with tour groups. The hotel’s breakfast spread was solid, nothing fancy but fresh croissants, local cheeses, and that strong Italian coffee that perks you right up. Parking’s a hassle if you’re driving – spots on the piazza fill up fast, so maybe opt for the garage a block over on Via della Valverde, it’s pricey but secure. And the staff? Super helpful; one evening I asked about catching an opera at the Arena, and they sorted tickets on the spot – well, sort of, they pointed me to the box office with insider tips on the best cheap seats.

All in all, if you’re looking for a no-frills base in Verona that punches above its 3-star weight with an 8.1 rating that feels earned, Katrin Luxury’s a smart pick. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can lag during peak hours, and the elevator’s on the slow side – but for the price, especially outside high summer when rates spike, you get that authentic slice of the city without breaking the bank. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in spring when the Adige River paths are blooming and the place is quieter, perfect for those long, aimless walks that make Verona magic.

Reviews

  • Ok – Dylan from Australia – 27 December 2024 (7/10)

    Nice enough room

What could be improved: Shower flooded badly, lots of traffic noise; not bad overall but probably could do better for the price

  • Very good – Isabella from Australia – 1 December 2024 (8/10)

Owner is so lovely – gave me lots of recommendations and super accomodating. everything is within 5-10 minutes, clean room and has coffee machine and fridge which was great.

  • Superb – Martin from Australia – 29 September 2024 (9/10)

Graziano was an excellent host despite the lack of English. He more than made up for it with his friendliness and willingness to communicate, some of which via Google Translate. Was most appreciative of his efforts and recommending me places to go and to eat. Room was other comfortable. Excellent location, quite close to the historic centre by walking or by bus. Also walking distance to the train station, or again, by bus.

What could be improved: Was a little confusing at first as part of check in. It is located in an apartment complex with a bit of a walk to the vertical transport that takes you up to a door of which behind sits another set of doors of the rooms themselves. But got sorted in the end by Graziano.

  • Good location and exceptional service – Jessica from United States – 25 September 2024 (9/10)

Graziano goes way above and beyond to take care of his guests. He brought me to a pizzeria when I arrived hungry, met me at the door when I was looking lost, helped me with parking (gave me his own parking spot), showed me how to get to town, and even hand-delivered the toiletries I forgot in my room to my car after I checked out. Thank you!

  • Fantastic, comfortable accomodation, close to all Verona sightseeings, very nice owner. Recommended! – Julie from Czech Republic – 8 September 2024 (9/10)

Comfortable accommodation inside of house with other apartments / BBs, close to all Verona sightseeing (Arena di Verona – cca 15min), nice and clean room, and very nice and kind owner Graziano 😉
    Parking is really close (100m), 7 Euro/night.
    Restaurants, cafes, gelaterias.. also close.
    Good price-performance ratio 😉
    Really worth visiting, it's recommended!

What could be improved: nothing 😉

  • Nice – Eduard from Estonia – 21 August 2024 (9/10)

Located between train station and old town with easy walking access, nice & clean room, big comfortable bed. a/c, terrace (you may smoke on it), coffee machine 🤌

What could be improved: No reception. The entry is through a locked private property, on entry door you have to call the owner (phone/whatsapp no. indicated on your booking confirmation)

  • Good value for money – Lourdes from Spain – 16 August 2024 (8/10)

Good location if you arrive to Verona by train. Nice room with AC in a quiet neighborhood. The owner was super nice and gave us good tips and recommendations of the city.

  • Superb – Toietta from Italy – 5 July 2024 (9/10)

    Really clean.
There is everything you need for a comfy stay
    There's a shared balcony
    Staff is very welcoming

What could be improved: Neighbourhood isn't really the top for a woman solo traveler

  • Very good – Rotem from Israel – 28 June 2024 (8/10)

The host is very nice and kind. Close to the train station and to main attraction.

What could be improved: The air conditioner stopped working at night, was quite unpleasant.

  • Superb – Ben from New Zealand – 24 June 2024 (9/10)

Graziano was super friendly and even made some great restaurant recommendations (the best pizzeria we went to in all of Italy)
The hotel was lovely, no complaints from us!
    thanks again Graziano!
