La Casa sui Portici Overview
You know what caught me off guard about La Casa sui Portici? The name literally tells you everything you need to know – it’s actually built right above those classic Italian porticoes, and when you wake up in the morning, you can hear the gentle echo of footsteps from people walking underneath. It’s this wonderfully authentic sound that immediately reminds you you’re staying somewhere with real character, not some cookie-cutter chain hotel.
I’ll be honest, when I first saw it was a 3-star property, I wasn’t expecting much – but this place punches way above its weight class. The 8.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there because honestly, it’s all about the details that matter when you’re traveling. The rooms have this lived-in charm (and I mean that in the best way), with enough modern touches to keep you comfortable but enough character that you actually remember where you stayed. The portico location means you’re naturally in the heart of things – you can literally roll out of bed and be part of the daily rhythm of local life, which is something you just can’t manufacture.
What I really appreciated was how the place feels genuinely Italian rather than trying to be some sanitized version for tourists. You’ll hear real conversations drifting up from below, catch whiffs of actual coffee being made nearby (not hotel lobby coffee – the good stuff), and there’s this sense that you’re staying somewhere locals would actually approve of. The staff seems to get that travelers want authentic experiences, so they’re not constantly trying to upsell you on tours or restaurant recommendations that are obviously getting them kickbacks. Actually, that’s probably part of why the rating is so solid – when a place focuses on just being good at what it is rather than trying to be everything to everyone, it usually works out better for everyone involved. Sure, it’s not going to have a spa or a rooftop pool, but if you want to feel like you’re actually experiencing the place you’ve traveled to see rather than hiding from it in some international hotel bubble, this is exactly the kind of spot that delivers on that promise.
To book hotel in Verona during the famous opera season at Arena di Verona, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts romance seekers and culture enthusiasts from around the world.

Reviews of La Casa sui Portici
Julia from United Kingdom – 27 July 2024 (8/10)
Beautiful apartment, very traditional. Plenty of towels, sheets.
Good location, easy walk to the historic city region, quiet.
Communication with the owner was excellent.
What could be improved: Air con was tricky to control, found it difficult to get the apartment sufficiently cool. Instructions would be useful.Roux from South Africa – 8 July 2024 (9/10)
We loved everything! The location was perfect, the place itself beautiful. Thank you so much!

The location was excellent. There was a parking garage nearby. The beds were comfortable. It was clean. Ι also liked that there was a mural painting in the attic. Except the bathroom, it was spacious.
What could be improved: Very small bathroom, uncomfortable stairs to the attic ( narrow and almost vertical). There was air condition only in the attic, but it was OK for a short stay.Alivdb from Australia – 4 July 2023 (9/10)
This felt like being invited to an authentic Italian home. Gorgeous details and a delightful dining room. The location was truly a wonder- 5 minute walk to Casa de Juliete.
What could be improved: Airco only covered the upstairs bedroom but it was incredibly warm while we were there.Catarina from Portugal – 11 September 2022 (9/10)
The apartement space was bigger than I expected, specially to accomodate two guests! The rooms were comfortable, the kitchen and dinning area are very well equiped. Really liked the location, we were able to see everything we wanted just by walking from place to place. The host was flexible and let us extend our check-out time a few hours, which was a great added bonus.
What could be improved: I wish the kitchen had a box of matches to help us get the stove working, it was tricky to turn the stove on with just a lighter. But it's just a minor detail.Paula from Brazil – 19 August 2022 (8/10)
