Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to La Finestra sul Parco on Via San Giacomo after a bit of a drive from Verona’s center – you know, that stretch where the city starts to feel more like a neighborhood than a tourist hub. It’s in Borgo Roma, which isn’t right in the thick of things like the Arena or Juliet’s balcony, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, if you’re coming from the A4 highway, it’s a straight shot south, maybe 10-15 minutes from the historic bits, and you’re dodging the crowds that swarm Piazza delle Erbe in peak summer. The street itself is pretty unassuming – lined with those typical Italian apartment blocks and a few local shops – but the hotel’s got this welcoming facade with big windows that, well, live up to the name (“the window on the park”). I parked right out front on the street, no hassle, though I’d warn you to watch for resident-only zones if you’re there on a weekday. Stepping inside, the lobby smelled faintly of espresso and fresh pastries, and the check-in was a breeze – the staff chatted with me in that easy mix of English and Italian, even threw in a tip about a nearby trattoria on Via Tombetta that’s killer for amatriciana but closes early on Sundays.
What really stuck with me was how the place feels like a cozy hideaway, especially after a day wandering Verona’s cobbled streets. My room overlooked Parco San Giacomo – yeah, that’s the green space right across the way, with paths for jogging or just chilling under the cypresses. Mornings, I’d wake to birds chirping and the distant hum of the Adige River, not the usual city buzz. It’s a solid 4-star spot, nothing flashy, but the beds are comfy with those crisp white linens that actually feel clean (you know what I mean, no weird hotel mustiness). Breakfast is included and pretty decent – think fresh croissants, local cheeses, and cappuccinos made right, though the selection’s a tad limited if you’re vegan or something. I did notice the rooms are on the smaller side, sort of European compact, so if you’re traveling with a ton of luggage, it might feel snug. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s reliable for streaming, but it dipped a bit in the evenings when everyone’s online – minor gripe, really. The bathroom had that heated towel rack, which was a godsend in cooler months, and there’s a small balcony where I sipped wine watching the park lights come on at dusk.
All in all, if you’re visiting Verona for the opera festival in July or August, this is a smart pick to escape the chaos – it’s quieter here, with easy bus access to the center via Line 11 from nearby stops. Or heck, rent a bike from the hotel and pedal along the river paths; it’s only about 2km to the Ponte Pietra bridge. At an 8 rating, it’s not perfect – the decor’s a bit dated in spots, like those floral curtains that scream ’90s Italy – but for the price, you get that authentic, lived-in feel without the tourist trap vibes. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the park’s blooming and Verona’s not overrun. If you’re after a real slice of local life with a park-view bonus, La Finestra sul Parco delivers – just pack light and embrace the neighborhood pace.

Reviews
Very good – Jevrem from Serbia – 22 January 2025 (8/10)
The apartment has a private garage, and it is spaceful. The host was extremely nice and helpful.
Very smooth check-in.
What could be improved: There were no carpets and the floors were a bit cold so maybe slippers should be provided. There is Air conditioning but there was no remote. We needed it because the temperature was a bit lower.
And maybe tea or coffee should be offered, people usually expect that…Superb – Debdipto from Germany – 11 October 2023 (9/10)
